The Handwriting Is on the Wall (2021)
Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Mark SchindlerGod removes His protection from those who profane His holy things and harden their hearts in pride. Nebuchadnezzar was deposed and driven among the beasts until he knew that the Most High rules, and his son Belshazzar, knowing all this, still lifted himself up against the Lord of heaven by drinking from the temple vessels and praising gods that cannot see or hear. God numbered his kingdom, weighed him and found him wanting, and that very night Belshazzar was slain. Israel likewise squandered God's gift of love, puffed up with its own pride and beauty, and Moses' people corrupted themselves with the golden calf soon after Sinai. Carnal men have short-term memories, so even Israel needed a miraculous release to keep the Feast rightly. Believers must therefore ask whether they come before God clean, whether they hold to Him or to the world He hates, and whether they act like Belshazzar. Yet the handwriting of the penalty of past sins was nailed to the cross, so it no longer stands against the converted. Present trials, including the deaths of faithful brethren from Covid after a year of remarkable protection, may be a preview of coming attractions that moves God's people closer to Him, and those who die rest in safety while Christ finishes preparing their place.
