The Pursuit of Unity
CGG WeeklyIn a world filled with differences and divisions, the push to choose sides often leads to the dissolution of unities and the formation of factions. Satan cleverly invites us to participate in his game of division, but we find a powerful counterstrategy in the example of Christ. From the beginning, God united man and woman in marriage, making them one flesh, while satan sought to destroy the unity they shared with God, leading to their expulsion from Eden. Unity, meaning oneness, is what Jesus desires for us to share with the Father, with Him, and with each other, as He prayed fervently for this oneness before His crucifixion. In the face of betrayal and arrest, Jesus demonstrated faith and humility to preserve unity with the Father. Despite the natural instinct to resist, as seen when Peter drew his sword, Jesus chose a different path, healing the servant's ear and submitting to the Father's will. He could have called upon thousands of angels for aid, yet He refrained, choosing unity over destruction. Even when mocked, beaten, and crucified, He endured without retaliation, going to His death like a lamb to the slaughter, living by every word from God rather than satan's provocations. This example serves as a template for us. When faced with sharp words or mistreatment from others, we must not let pride lead to anger or retaliation. Instead, we are to take up the shield of faith, imitating our Savior's character, and pursue unity rather than division, following His path of humility and submission to the Father's will.
