Rebellion as Witchcraft

CGG Weekly by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Rebellion against God's commands is equated with the sin of witchcraft in its severity and spiritual danger. Disobedience is not merely a failure to follow instructions but an active opposition to divine authority, akin to taking up arms against God. The comparison between rebellion and witchcraft highlights their equal magnitude as sins; both lead a person away from God and, without repentance, align them with demonic forces. Such rebellion, as seen in Saul's actions, results in God's rejection, for He will not tolerate a declared enemy in a position of authority over His people.

Halloween

Article by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Halloween, with its deep roots in pagan practices, is intertwined with witchcraft and the occult, which God explicitly denounces as abominations. The holiday, derived primarily from the Celtic festival of Samhain, involves customs that honor spirit beings other than God, reflecting idolatrous false worship. During Samhain, the Celts believed the boundary between the physical and spiritual worlds weakened, allowing spirits to cross over, leading to practices aimed at appeasing these spirits through offerings of food and treats to prevent tricks or curses. Such practices included divination, séances, and incantations to contact the dead for guidance, all of which are forms of spiritism forbidden by God. The Bible consistently warns against witchcraft and sorcery, identifying them as spiritual prostitution that leads to separation from God and destruction. Sorcery, linked to the use of drugs and potions to induce spiritual states, is condemned alongside idolatry, highlighting its grave nature. God's truth exposes these unfruitful works of darkness, urging believers to walk as children of light and have no fellowship with such practices. Halloween's modern observances, including trick-or-treating as a form of extortion and the prevalence of divination on October 31, continue to echo these ancient, ungodly traditions, stripped of any Christian veneer that was once imposed upon them.

The Occult

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Witchcraft, as part of the broader occult practices, is a significant element of the deceptive New Age and ancient Babylonian religion that permeates society. Estimates of practicing witches in the United States show a dramatic increase. This rapid growth indicates a profound impact on the world, conditioning individuals, especially the young, to accept witches, wizards, sorcery, and magic as normal through satan's repackaged deceptions. Witchcraft, often synonymous with divination in ancient contexts, involves extracting information or guidance from pagan gods and is consistently condemned as an abomination by God. It encompasses various practices aimed at manipulating supernatural forces or the environment. Some witches attempt to distinguish between black and white magic, claiming that magic performed for benevolent purposes is good, while malevolent intentions define black magic. However, this distinction is deemed illegitimate, as all forms of witchcraft are seen as originating from satan, the father of lies, and corrupt human nature, regardless of intent. The pervasive nature of witchcraft is evident in entertainment and societal norms, subtly promoting acceptance through movies, television, books, and games. This conditioning aligns with a broader agenda to prepare society for a neo-pagan, one-world religion that opposes the truth of God. Witchcraft's connection to earth worship and paganism brings individuals into contact with demonic forces, further emphasizing its detestable nature in the eyes of God. Ultimately, involvement in witchcraft, whether as a curious dabbler or a full-time practitioner, is seen as a path to destruction, rooted in deception and lies.
