Our Ultimate Purpose (Part Three)
Sermonette by Austin Del CastilloOur great God experiences deep emotions in relation to His people, as seen in His interactions with ancient Israel. Despite the constant disrespect and idolatry they showed Him, He expresses a willingness to forgive and bless them, revealing His profound love and commitment. Yet, their continued sin and betrayal cause Him pain, hurting His feelings and dignity, for He has invested all He is in them, openly staking His honor for the world to see. Through the prophet Hosea, He portrays Israel as an unfaithful wife, commanding Hosea to take a wife of harlotry to symbolize the great harlotry of the land in departing from Him. In Jeremiah, He acknowledges giving Israel a certificate of divorce for her adultery, while noting that Judah, her sister, also played the harlot without true repentance, honoring Him only with lips while their hearts remained far from Him. This ongoing unfaithfulness has caused Him heartache since He called Israel out of Egypt, extending even to the present day. Now, He looks to the Israel of God, called by His Father, to be a faithful and true mate, seeking a relationship of honor, respect, and intimate closeness on a spiritual level that surpasses human understanding.
