The Bible's Roles for Men

CGG Weekly

A Christian man must be masculine, the husband of one wife, while also being gentle and striving to exemplify the fruits of God's Holy Spirit. He may drink alcoholic beverages in moderation but must never succumb to drunkenness. A man should practice strict self-control in the things he allows himself to do under God's law, balancing his priorities to give greatest attention to what is most important: God, his wife and family, his work, and the church. The godly man is balanced and stable, not given to extremes or episodes of self-indulgence. God requires that most men work hard to provide food, shelter, and clothing for themselves and their families, living their whole lives according to God's will and in emulation of Jesus Christ in every circumstance.

Is God a Male Chauvinist?

Article by David F. Maas

Societal trends challenge traditional masculinity through role-swapping narratives in media, portraying women in combat roles or as corporate executives while men take on domestic duties. Such depictions often lead to exaggerated parodies of gender traits, with women mimicking perceived male behaviors like bullying or swaggering, which can appear as caricatures rather than authentic expressions of strength. In the divine design, God created both male and female in His image, as seen in Genesis 1:26, emphasizing that neither sex is superior or inferior. Masculine traits such as strength, power, decisiveness, and leadership are evident in Scripture, alongside feminine traits like beauty, grace, mercy, and tenderness. To become complete members of God's Family, both men and women must incorporate these characteristics, with men learning tenderness and patience, and women embracing assertiveness and decisiveness. Examples like Jesus Christ expressing a motherly instinct in Matthew 23:37 show that such balance does not diminish masculinity but enhances Godlike qualities. Similarly, a virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:16-17 demonstrates strength and decisiveness without losing femininity, illustrating that adopting traits of the opposite gender adds a dimension of Godhood rather than detracting from essential manhood or womanhood.

Boys to Men: The Father-Son Crisis

'WorldWatch' by Joseph B. Baity

Young men and boys in America are grappling with a deepening crisis, struggling to find their God-ordained, necessary, and meaningful roles in society as godless, feminist thought erodes the position and reputation of men and the nuclear family. Statistics reveal that nearly one in three children live without their biological fathers, with even higher percentages among African-American and Hispanic communities, leading to increased risks of truancy, criminal activity, substance abuse, unemployment, and poverty for boys raised without fathers. Modern culture often portrays masculine instincts as toxic, while entertainment and social media depict men as dimwitted buffoons and women as intelligent problem-solvers, leaving boys confused, resentful, and emasculated as they wrestle with their God-given instincts against social stigma. Young men are falling behind academically, with only 20% of boys proficient in writing by eighth grade compared to 41% of girls, and females outnumbering males in college enrollment by 58% to 42%. Male engagement in school sports has significantly declined, reducing opportunities to encounter positive male role models, while boys exhibit growing apathy and a less optimistic outlook for the future. Tragically, young men are nearly four times as likely to commit suicide as females, yet dominant social and political infrastructures fail to address boys' needs meaningfully. The progressive cultural movement has sabotaged traditional gender roles, favoring females over males, even as increasing numbers of women lament the lack of strong, confident men. As modern man, under the influence of satan, seeks to dismantle God's good creation and the natural order, the result is anxiety and disquietude. The solution lies in returning to God, who created man in His own image, male and female, and declared everything He made, including males and females, to be very good.
