Boys to Men: The Father-Son Crisis
'WorldWatch' by Joseph B. BaityYoung men and boys in America are facing a crisis, struggling to find their God-ordained, necessary, and meaningful roles in society amidst a decline in positive role models. Statistics reveal that nearly one in three children, with higher percentages among African-American and Hispanic communities, live without their biological fathers, increasing risks of truancy, criminal activity, substance abuse, unemployment, and poverty for boys. Modern culture often portrays men as dimwitted buffoons while elevating women as intelligent problem-solvers, leaving boys confused, resentful, and emasculated as they grapple with their God-given masculine instincts against social stigma. Academically, boys lag behind girls, with only 20% proficient in writing by eighth grade compared to 41% of girls, and college enrollment favoring females at 58% to 42%. Male engagement in school sports has also dropped significantly, reducing opportunities to encounter positive male role models. This weaker academic and social footing contributes to a less optimistic outlook, with young men nearly four times more likely to commit suicide than females. The dominant social and political infrastructures, built to empower girls, fail to address boys' needs meaningfully, while progressive cultural movements have sabotaged traditional gender roles, favoring females over males.
