Attitude Is Everything

Commentary by Bill Onisick

Our attitude is everything, a powerful force that can either control us or be controlled by us. It shapes our thoughts and emotions, predisposing us to respond positively or negatively to future events. We can't control life's circumstances, but we can choose our attitude and response, consciously thinking about and changing it. Unfortunately, many of us fail to apply the discipline needed to transform deeply entrenched attitudes that drive uncontrolled thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Our attitudes are contagious, influenced by the people we surround ourselves with and conditioned daily by the world around us. We must be cautious not to over-focus on the evil surrounding us, as it detracts from spreading the incredible love of God and our hope in His awesome plan. Jesus Christ came to spread the good news, not the bad news. Positive people are more successful in nearly everything, and maintaining a positive outlook in a negative world is essential, though not easy. We must control the narrative and reframe our thoughts, transforming our minds into His likeness. God commands us to be positive and strong, not afraid or dismayed, for the Lord our God is with us wherever we go. As we battle the negativity of this world, our conversations should be overwhelmingly positive, hopeful, and optimistic as we eagerly await our citizenship in God's Kingdom. To control our attitude, we must focus our minds on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. When we do, our attitude transforms, and the peace of God protects our hearts and minds through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Meditating on God's written words reminds us of His incredible promises and faithfulness, reframing our attitudes from hopeless to hopeful, from victim to victor. All things work together for the good of His chosen people who love Him. Walking in God's powerful spirit of love, we can bear, believe, hope, and endure all things as our positive attitude shines brightly in this evil world. We must not let negativity drag us down; though aware of the times, we should proclaim the good news of the gospel instead of the bad. A positive attitude is contagious, and we can change ours to be more God-like and hopeful. As members of God's Family, let's take back control of the narrative, reframe our attitude, and focus our thoughts and conversations on things that glorify God. Let's share faith-building stories of God's active hand in our lives and talk more about our incredible eternal future in God's Kingdom with Him, free from sin, sorrow, death, or darkness. Despite tribulations in this world, Jesus tells us to be of good cheer and positive, for He has overcome the world. We've read the end of the Book, and God wins, and as part of His Family, we win too. If God is for us, who can be against us?

CGG Weekly by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The epilogue to Job's story reveals a lesson for us. Job's 'golden age' was before him, not behind, and the key to his optimism was his relationship with God.

It is a big mistake to neglect expressing earnest thanks whenever it is called for. The benefits to others and to us are too valuable to pass up.
