The Binding of Satan
'Prophecy Watch' by Richard T. RitenbaughIn the beginning, God and mankind, represented by Adam and Eve, shared an agreeable relationship in the Garden of Eden until satan, an uninvited and destructive intruder, disturbed the peace and ruined paradise. This deceiver and accuser has since caused unbelief, fear, distrust, hatred, and division. God, our Host, has prophesied in His Word that He will one day, for a time, cast out this intruder and restore peace to His fellowship with humanity. Satan's binding after Christ's return will be a vital step toward the restitution of all things, facilitating harmony between God and man during the thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ on earth. This restored relationship will open the way for astounding blessings and advancements in the Millennium. God declares that satan will be put down, as the woman's Seed, the Messiah, will bruise his head. The Hebrew word for bruise, qâmal, means to slay or kill, signaling the ultimate end of satan. Despite this, we must still resist the daily, evil influences of the devil, who continues to deceive and tempt human beings, especially God's children. As Paul encourages in Romans 16:19-20, the God of peace will crush satan under your feet shortly. The Greek word for crush, syntribô (Strong's 4937), means to break the power of or debilitate, indicating that soon after Christ's return, God will break satan's power over humanity for a thousand years, as prophesied in Revelation 20:1-3. Two significant steps in God's plan will occur in quick succession: the return of Jesus Christ, prompting the first resurrection, and the binding of satan. The devil will be imprisoned for most of the thousand-year reign of Christ with His saints, allowing the earth and its inhabitants to enjoy times of refreshing. During this period, God will work with humanity through His resurrected firstfruits, restoring a proper relationship between man and God. Without satan's constant pressure to defy God, people will be more inclined to choose what is good, though they will not receive as great a reward as God's firstfruits, who have fought satan's influence throughout their converted lives. As overcomers of satan with Christ, the firstfruits will stand on the first tier of those raised into God's Kingdom, reigning with Christ throughout the Millennium.
