Holy Days: God's Plan in the Holy Days
Bible Study by StaffGod has a master plan to recreate Himself through human beings, limiting this process to a 7,000-year framework. His plan unfolds in a deliberate, planned order, with each of His holy days highlighting a specific step in His work to build children in His image. The weekly Sabbath and the festivals listed in Leviticus 23 serve as reminders of His purpose for mankind, ensuring that this plan is passed from generation to generation. These holy days reveal the comprehensive plan of God, beginning with repentance and forgiveness and culminating in the resurrection of the dead as members of His Family. God is not haphazard; He operates with order, dealing with distinct groups of people at different times in His plan for salvation. Jesus Christ is the very first in this plan, opening the way for salvation by living a perfect life and dying for humanity's sins. After accepting Christ's sacrifice, the first group He works with is His firstfruits, the early harvest of His children, represented by the founding of the New Testament church and the giving of His Holy Spirit. At Christ's return, signaled by the last trumpet, these firstfruits, both living and dead, will be changed to spirit, entering God's Kingdom to rule with Him for a thousand years. Following this, Christ will gather the second group, those left of all nations after the end-time disasters, ushering in a thousand years of peace and prosperity during which they and their descendants can be saved. The third group consists of all who died in ignorance of God's way, resurrected to physical life for a chance at salvation during a judgment period. Finally, Christ addresses the last group, those who have rejected salvation, who will face a final judgment and be consumed in fire, ensuring that only those who choose peace, harmony, and love remain in His Kingdom. Through His feast days, God reminds us of His plan and encourages us to qualify for a better resurrection.
God's Master Plan
Bible Study by Richard T. RitenbaughLike any good builder, God has a plan. We would be making a terrible mistake if we thought that God had waded into His work without a plan. God's plan is far grander and more involved than any construction job and incredibly more important. Though God is Creator, the physical creation is just the environment for His most important work, creating a Family to share it with for all eternity. God has a great master plan that He is working out on the earth, and it will come to pass because He is Almighty God. He does nothing capriciously and has determined that His plan will produce the most good when it is completed. His main objective is to make man in His own image, creating humanity with a spiritual ability to understand His nature and learn to conform to it through the experiences of life and the process of building godly character. God's plan has a beginning and an end, with certain boundaries and limits during which His creative work of glorifying many sons and daughters will be done. Time to God takes on different dimensions, as He inhabits eternity and can function outside of time if He so desires. His plan spans a 7,000-year framework to bring humanity into His Family, with Christ's thousand-year reign, often called the Millennium, connected to God's rest on the Sabbath day during the creation week. Significant steps in God's master plan have already been completed: He made the earth fit for human habitation, created man and instructed him in His way, called Abraham and made a covenant with him, freed Israel from slavery in Egypt and established the Old Covenant to preserve His law until the coming of Christ, sent His Son Jesus Christ to live perfectly, die as man's Savior, and be resurrected as High Priest and firstborn among many brethren, sent His Spirit and founded His church to preach the gospel, and proposed a New Covenant to offer salvation to the Gentiles. Events yet to occur in God's plan include Christ's return as King of kings to defeat man's satan-inspired rebellion and set up His Kingdom, the saints being changed to spirit to reign with Christ for a thousand years, satan's binding throughout the Millennium, the resurrection of all who ever lived to physical life with a chance to accept God's way, the casting of those who reject salvation into the Lake of Fire, and God the Father ruling the whole universe from earth with His Family living and working with Him throughout eternity.
God's Plan and the False Immortal Soul Doctrine
'Ready Answer' by Craig SablichGod's Plan for humanity is a profound pattern of truth revealed throughout His Word. At death, a human's physical body decomposes, returning to dust, while the spirit of understanding, a gift from God that elevates humanity above other creatures, returns to Him for safekeeping. Immortality is a divine gift, promised to believers and granted at specific times, each in their own order, as part of God's Plan. Jesus teaches that all who have died remain in their graves until they are resurrected—some to eternal life for the righteous, and others to condemnation for evildoers—pointing to two distinct resurrections. In a future time, the dead will arise to a period of judgment, free from the influence of evil, and God will joyfully grant salvation and eternal life to those who live His way. However, some will reject immortality, choosing their own selfish path despite knowing God's truth, and they will face a different resurrection and fate. Eternal life is not inherent in humans but is a gift from God through His Holy Spirit, the guarantee of inheritance until the resurrection. God has a glorious, joyful future planned for all who choose to live His way, as exemplified by His promise to David, who, though currently in the grave, is destined to be king over resurrected Israel in the time to come.
Does God Have a 7,000-Year Master Plan?
Bible Questions & AnswersGod's 7,000-year master plan for mankind is symbolized by the seven-day week. As shown in Genesis, God refashioned the earth and created all life forms in six days, then rested on the Sabbath. God also gave man six days to work, followed by a day of rest. The seventh day is a time for man to set aside daily activities and worship the true God. With the Lord, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day, illustrating a grander scale of time. The seventh day of the week represents 1,000 years of peace under the rule of Jesus Christ, commonly called the Millennium, which will occur after Christ's intervention in world affairs. The first six days of the week symbolize 6,000 years during which man has been allowed to govern himself and work out his own ideas and plans. Human civilization has existed for nearly 6,000 years, indicating that man's week is nearly over, and God's great Millennial rest will soon be here.
God's Sovereignty and the Church's Condition (Part One)
'Personal' from John W. RitenbaughThe role of God in the world, the church, and individual lives is central to understanding His overall operations. The Bible introduces God as the active Creator, not merely an observer, but the Mover, Shaker, and Shaper of things pertaining to man's purpose. From the very first chapter of Genesis, He is shown actively creating a suitable environment for mankind to live and flourish, preparing the physical setting for His ongoing work of forming and shaping man in the image of His holy, spiritual character. God's sovereignty reveals Him as proactive, not merely reactive. He does not wait for events to unfold but creates circumstances, events, and happenings to achieve His purpose. He knows exactly where He is headed, moving the world's nations and the church toward the end He has in mind. His intimate interest and watchful care are evident as He constantly looks out for our best interests in every situation. Even in the scattering of His church, it is clear that such a significant event could not occur without His awareness and, at the very least, His allowance, given His power over His creation. Furthermore, God takes the initiative in arranging trials and calamities, defining their parameters to produce righteousness and to glorify Himself. These trials, whether for individuals or nations, are part of His creative activity, always designed with the purpose of achieving His ultimate goal. Despite this, our free moral agency remains, and He ensures that those burdened by trials have the ability to overcome them, providing hope and encouragement in His purposeful direction.
The Sovereignty of God (Part Two)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughGod's plan is a central and unyielding force, guiding all creation with absolute sovereignty. He is the Almighty, possessing all power in heaven and earth, and no one can thwart His purpose or resist His will. His counsel shall stand, and He will do all His pleasure, unaffected by time or any other being, for He is Creator, far more powerful and wiser than all. Nothing can turn Him aside from what He has set His will to accomplish. Before the foundation of the world, He ordained His plans, foreseeing every possibility, even the sins of humanity and angels. He was not caught by surprise when Adam and Eve sinned; He had thought it all through, mapping out alternatives to ensure His purpose would be fulfilled. If they chose one path, He had a response; if another, He had another plan. His purpose behind this intricate design is to bring us to a place where we willingly cooperate with Him, choosing Him as the sovereign Lord and Master of our lives, so we may live as He desires to the greatest extent possible. He manages, controls, and governs all nations, setting up kingdoms and overthrowing empires as He sees fit. He determines the extent of rulerships, and no earthly power can stop Him. He sets up dynasties and ensures their continuation, never losing track of His promises. His sovereignty is absolute, irresistible, and infinite, and by our belief, shown in how we live, we affirm His right to govern the universe for His glory and pleasure. He exercises His power according to His purpose, from His perspective, on His time schedule, not ours. Sometimes His power appears dormant for long periods, yet He acts decisively when He wills, delivering some while allowing others to face trials. He has mercy on whom He will have mercy, and we must be ready for surprises, trusting that He manipulates events for the best according to His purpose. He delegates power as He pleases, giving unique strengths or roles to some and not to others, and we must adjust our thinking to accept this without calling Him into account. He gives gifts and grace, placing us within the body as it pleases Him, distributing abilities for the benefit of all. We, as clay, have no right to question why He has made us thus; faith involves trusting Him, acknowledging that He, with His pure love, power, and wisdom, is in control. His mercy is bestowed on whom He pleases, whenever it seems good to Himself, and we must live by faith, trusting that He knows best what to do with our lives as He shapes us into His image.
Walking With God Through Trials
Sermonette by Craig SablichTrials, instead of prompting a 'woe is me' attitude, should be re-evaluated as valuable experiences, nudging us into God's divine purpose for us.
God's Sovereignty and the Church's Condition (Part Two)
'Personal' from John W. RitenbaughGod's plan is intricately woven into the fabric of creation, demonstrating His foresight and sovereign control over all events. He arranges and oversees trials for individuals and nations, always with the purpose of producing righteousness and glorifying Himself. These burdens are within the capacity of those tested to overcome, as He ensures a way through every challenge. Before the foundation of the world, God predestined Our Savior Jesus Christ to die for the sins of humanity, fully aware that sin would enter the world. He set the stage for monumental events, allowing Adam and Eve to face temptation from satan without intervening, though He could have at any moment. His awareness and power are so complete that if something happens, He has willed it by choosing not to stop it, though He does not force sin upon anyone. There is no Plan B in God's design; He is never caught by surprise, nor does He experience frustration or fear, always maintaining control. His ways are beyond human comprehension, often differing vastly from human ideals of a perfect world. God actively shapes circumstances, as seen when He hardened Pharaoh's heart to fulfill His purpose, demonstrating that His power of choice ultimately overrides human will. In His plan, God creates confrontations, bringing His servants into conflict with enemies, a pattern evident from Moses to the apostles and even to the end-time church. He engineers tests within His church, allowing false teachers and antichrists to infiltrate fellowships to challenge the faith of the brethren. This mirrors the initial temptation of Adam and Eve, showing that God uses such opposition to refine and test His people. God is not a passive observer; He actively creates and scatters, ensuring that what He divides remains so until He reunites it in His time. The scattering of the church is an act of love for eternal good, and He alone can straighten what He has made crooked. His sovereignty is absolute, creating even the wicked for His purposes, and nothing in the universe happens apart from His will, providing a solid foundation for faith.
