Rebellion as Witchcraft
CGG Weekly by Richard T. RitenbaughGod had commanded Saul to utterly destroy the Amalekites and all they possessed, yet Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the livestock, unwilling to fully obey His directive. This act of disobedience led to God rejecting Saul as king over Israel, for rebellion against His command is as grave as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is akin to iniquity and idolatry. Disobedience is not merely a failure to follow orders but an active opposition to His authority, placing one on the wrong side of the divide between right and wrong, as spiritually dangerous as engaging in demonism. Both rebellion and witchcraft lead a person away from God, opening a place in the camp of demons without repentance. This is why God would not allow a declared enemy to rule over His people, as Saul's rebellion revealed a heart trending away from Him, hardened into a permanent character akin to apostasy. God desires that we take His commands seriously and make obeying them integral to our lives, for refusing to keep them denies us the path to eternal life, while striving to obey in faith ensures His grace and guidance toward salvation.
