As the twenty-fifth anniversary of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attack on the United States approaches, the world watches while Muslims, as a people, and Islam, as their religion and way of life, successfully gain unforeseen growth and influence on Western civilization throughout Europe and now even in America.

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the Western world, and especially America, viewed Islam and even its most moderate adherents as pariahs. Muslim organizations ranging from the Muslim Brotherhood to al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah, et al., came under intense scrutiny. A global war on Islamic terror ensued, waged throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond.

Even before the attacks, Muslims had already earned the reputation of international troublemakers due, in part, to their newfound influence over global energy markets (since the 1973 Arab oil embargo) and more so from their proximity to and hatred for the State of Israel and her allies in the West, especially the U.S. (As Christians are aware, this hatred originated around 3,500 years ago with the rivalry between Abraham’s sons, Ishmael and Isaac, followed shortly thereafter by that between his grandsons, Esau and Jacob. See Genesis 16:11-12; 27:41; Exodus 17:16.)

So, it is a surprise—some would say, a shocking irony—that just 25 years after their violent attacks on the biggest power centers of not only the West but also the entire globe, Muslims, with their radical, anti-Western Islamic ideology, are gaining political footholds across the West.

For the past two decades, European leaders have turned a blind eye toward their borders, resulting in unchecked immigration from poor Muslim nations into the EU. This human onslaught has concentrated particularly in the westernmost nations, including the United Kingdom. These immigrants, numbering in the millions, are draining economic resources while forcing cultural and political upheavals.

News stories from earlier this month reported that over 60,000 military-aged men crossed the Spanish border from Algeria via Morocco in a single day, with many more likely to follow. In England, “Mohammed” is the most popular name for newborn boys. Islamic mosques are replacing Protestant and Catholic churches, and rooftop amplifiers broadcast the Adhan, or the Islamic call to prayer, five times a day from downtown business districts to once-quiet neighborhoods.

From the UK to France, Germany, Portugal, Spain (and virtually every European nation), Islam is gaining an outsized influence, even dominance, over many local, regional, and national governing bodies and the cultures that have always made them so distinctive. Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Portugal, and Switzerland have all passed legislation recently intended to counter what can only be called an Islamic invasion.

However, these legal measures may be too little, too late. European authorities have already identified nearly 900 Muslim enclaves located across the Continent, including numerous “no-go” zones for non-Muslims where Islamic Sharia law is effectively in force.

Notably, Sharia law, derived from the Quran and the Hadith, furnishes no path to distinguish between the religious and civic realms of a society. In this way, it is radically different from modern Western-style law, founded on the Judeo-Christian ethic, which provides for the separation of church and state. The Quran, along with other Islamic teachings, administers all aspects of Muslim life, including diet, dress codes, worship, and governance. Moreover, Sharia law allows or even encourages polygamy and domestic violence, female circumcision, forced child marriage, and even honor killings and militant jihad.

Meanwhile, the outlook in America, while not yet as troubling as in Europe, is trending ominously. Again, unchecked immigration, notably during the Biden administration, allowed for not only an influx of Latin and South American peoples, but also a steady stream of Muslims, primarily from poor African nations under Islamic rule.

States like Minnesota, Michigan, New Jersey, and Virginia are currently home to some of the largest, most politically aggressive Muslim populations in the U.S. The town of Hamtramck, Michigan, recently elected an entirely Muslim city council. That state’s Attorney General, a former congressman, is also Muslim. New York City, America’s largest and most influential city, just elected a Socialist Muslim as Mayor. As of 2026, four Muslims serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, with many others winning primaries for the November midterm elections. All told, 228 Muslims now hold political office in 26 states.

Provisions for mandating Islamic holidays, halal menus at public schools, criminalizing criticism of Islam, and renaming local streets after Arab homelands are all on the dockets of Muslim-majority communities and towns.

Perhaps most concerning is an upcoming four-hundred-acre Muslim development, the East Plano Islamic Center, just outside of Dallas, Texas, which some are currently hailing as the “epicenter of Islam in North America.” Similarly, developers have broken ground on another Islamic community of just over thirty acres, just outside of Houston in Katy, Texas, known as the Huda Islamic Center. Plans include an Islamic university, athletic fields, apartments, health clinics, and retail shopping with halal butchers. Even the major airports of Dallas and Houston have agreed to install (or are considering installing) Muslim foot-washing stations to accommodate the ever-increasing number of Muslims coming to the state.

Amid most of the Muslim activity in America is the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The group is active in promoting pro-Islamic legislation, fighting what it calls “Islamophobia,” as well as fundraising for many Islamic causes, including their Muslim political candidates. CAIR’s leadership has long been tied to the infamous Muslim Brotherhood, considered a terrorist organization by many. For years, along with its goal of global domination for Islam, it has called openly for Israel’s destruction. Officially, CAIR denies any such involvement.

According to an article published in 2012 on CNBC.com, CAIR founder Omar Ahmad said in a 1998 speech: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”

Texas Representative Chip Roy recently stated, in response to the frightening influx of Muslims in America, and especially in his state, “Islam is on the march [and] no-go zones are building.”

Experts expect this so-called “Islamification” process to only grow as more Muslim refugees resettle in towns and cities across the U.S.—from the suburbs of northern Seattle, where thousands of Afghans are being relocated, to those in northern Virginia, the immigrant-rich backyard of America’s capital. Estimates of the Muslim American population vary widely. The Pew Research Center estimates it at 3.5 million, while the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) puts it at 8 million. There is broad agreement, however, that Islam is by far the fastest-growing religion in the U.S. and around the world. As the recent events in Spain show, where 60,000 Muslim migrants stormed the border early this month, many followers of the faith clamor to come to the West. There is ample reason for concern. Most astute observers expect the Islamic cultural and political assault on America and the West to continue mostly unabated. Christians should also watch, as Islam, with its intent to occupy and conquer Jerusalem, will likely play a key role in events leading to the triumphant return of Jesus Christ.
