Whoever Loves and Practices a Lie

Sermon by Charles Whitaker

God warns that the Lake of Fire awaits those who persistently practice deception, loving lies more than truth. In the catalog of Revelation 21:8, the final element, described as "all liars," serves as a universal summary of the preceding seven elements, indicating that lying is a common trait among the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, and idolaters. This universal level emphasizes that all such individuals are characterized by deceit. Similarly, in Revelation 22:15, the catalog concludes with "whoever loves and practices a lie," reinforcing that deception is integral to these condemned behaviors. Furthermore, Revelation 21:27 connects abominations with falsehood, stating that those who practice abomination and lying will not enter the New Jerusalem. This consistent link across both catalogs underscores that practicing lies is a defining sin, manifesting in various spiritual conditions and actions that exclude individuals from God's Kingdom.

What Will Happen to Liars?

Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

Satan is designated as a liar, speaking solely from his own resources, with no pure truth within him. Every thought from his heart is ulterior, misleading, and self-serving, as he aims to capture every soul through lying and enslave them. By contrast, Jesus describes Himself as the embodiment of truth, which sets one free, while lying enslaves, revealing that the whole world lies under the sway of the devil. This present evil world was founded upon a deceptive lie uttered by Satan to Adam and Eve. Lying is so detestable to God that He declares all liars shall have their part in the Lake of Fire. Mankind has been infected with the lying disease through contact with Satan and his minions. The heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, making lying a pervasive issue. The source of lying is the heart, it becomes addictive to the liar, and the fruit of lying is that the person makes himself unbelievable. Lies serve as a little fortress where the liar feels safe and powerful, using justifications to build walls around their deceit, manipulating others while trying to run their life. The major damage of lying is the destruction of trust, which can irreparably harm or entirely destroy relationships, preventing any peaceful connection.

Joshua and the Gibeonites (Part Three)

We must be very careful about ascribing human behavior—and especially human sin—to God, concluding that it must be God's will, or it would be different.

Truth-Based Worship Vs Spiritual Confusion

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God never accepts worship that comes from human reasoning and the traditions of man. The starting point for worship must always be God and His revelation.

The Commandments (Part Eighteen)

Sermon/Bible Study by John W. Ritenbaugh

A community can only be established upon a foundation of stability and truth. Our relationships must be based upon God's truth, producing faithfulness.

Consequences of Accepting False Gospels

Sermonette by Craig Sablich

Many false gospels appear among professed Christians, imitating Satan's clever lie that we can become like God by doing our own thing, disregarding God's law.
