Satan is the father of lies, as declared in John 8:44, where Jesus states that Satan speaks lies from his own resources, having no truth within him. His deceitful nature aims to enslave souls, contrasting with Jesus as the embodiment of truth in John 14:6. Satan's initial lie to Adam and Eve founded this evil world, affecting all mankind with a deceitful heart, as noted in Jeremiah 17:9. His cunning deception sways the world, per I John 5:19, and liars are considered his children. Scriptures condemn all lies, aligning hypocrisy with Satan's falsehood, marking him as the originator of deception across all spheres of influence.

What Will Happen to Liars?

Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

In John 8:44, Jesus designates Satan as a liar who speaks from his own resources, revealing that there is no pure truth within him. Every thought from his heart is ulterior, misleading, and self-serving, marking him as the arch-deceiver with the intent to capture every soul through lying and enslave them. By contrast, Jesus in John 14:6 describes Himself as the embodiment of truth, stating in John 8:32 that truth sets free, while lying, as the opposite, enslaves. This aligns with I John 5:19, indicating that the whole world lies under the sway of the devil, enslaved by his deception. Indeed, this present evil world was founded upon a sneaky lie uttered by Satan to Adam and Eve. Mankind has been affected by this lying disease through contact with Satan and his minions, as Jeremiah 17:9 declares that man's heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.

How Was it Accomplished So Easily? (Part Four)

Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

Satan's words had a profound impact, deceiving Eve into committing an evil act, while Adam, though not deceived, followed her and sinned as well. Those few lying words from satan have affected everyone born since, except for Jesus Christ. God describes satan as more cunning than any beast of the field, and Jesus declares in John 8:44 that when satan speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. The proclivity for lying in this world is derived from their spiritual father, satan, whose deliberate deception mirrors the consistent lies seen in various spheres of influence.
