Redeemed, But Waiting for Redemption

Sermonette by

God's redemption of the Israelites at Passover marks the beginning of their relationship with the God of their fathers. It freed Israel from a harsh master and initiated their journey with Him, though much more lay ahead. This redemption, as seen in the past, was not the totality of their experience but the starting point, requiring them to follow the cloud out of Egypt, make a covenant with their new God, and strive to be faithful to it. Just as Israel's redemption in Egypt was the initial step in her relationship with God, so too does our redemption encompass a past aspect, beginning with Christ redeeming us from the curse of the law. As Galatians 3:13 states, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. Additionally, Galatians 4:4-5 reveals that in the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption as sons. This past redemption, akin to our justification, signifies the initial rescue from the penalty imposed by the law, setting the foundation for our ongoing relationship with Him.

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Jesus redeemed us with His shed blood from the penalty of our sins, but He also works as our High Priest, continually redeeming us until we are resurrected.
