Communication and Leaving Babylon (Part Three)
'Personal' from John W. RitenbaughCommunication with spirit beings profoundly shapes human nature and character, initiating a transformative process that began with Adam and Eve. Initially created with a heart deemed very good by God, they were exposed to Satan, a spirit being with beliefs, attitudes, and purposes contrary to God's. Without interference from God, they chose to submit to this malevolent influence, marking the beginning of man's corruption. This single communication with Satan altered their perspectives and character, opening their eyes to their nakedness and setting in motion a degenerative process that affects all of humanity. This interaction with an evil spirit demonstrates a sobering reality: a spirit being can communicate with humans by transferring thoughts, often without the individual realizing the external source. Such unseen influence contrasts with Adam and Eve's awareness of Satan's presence during their encounter. The corruption initiated by this communication did not end with them but spread to all mankind, placing each person in a world permeated by Satan's spirit and the deceptive cultures it has fostered. In contrast, communication with God offers a path to spiritual restoration. Sin, by demonstrating a lack of love and fidelity to our Creator, cuts off access to Him, symbolized by the flaming sword guarding Eden after Adam and Eve's fall. However, through Jesus Christ's sacrifice, the barrier is removed for those who accept it by faith, opening the way for direct communication with the Father and the Son. This relationship serves as the medium of holy, righteous, spiritual communication, far outweighing the evil influences of the world and providing a decisive advantage in the spiritual battle for survival if one continues to believe and trust in Them. The quality of life, described as eternal life, is tied to knowing God and Jesus Christ through this personal relationship. Unlike the world, which lacks such direct communication and cannot truly know Him despite religious knowledge, those granted access can engage in a transformative connection that fosters spiritual growth and counters the pervasive influence of Satan's domain.
Communication and Leaving Babylon (Part Two)
'Personal' from John W. RitenbaughThe Bible confirms that communication can take place between humans and spirit beings, whether from God our Father and Jesus Christ, or from satan and his horde of demon spirits imprisoned beneath the canopy of air that covers the earth. We share the same environment with these demonic spirits, who regard us as invaders and enemies to be destroyed, since the earth was their initial place of habitation before humanity was created. The dangerous quality of this communication is that it can be transferred directly into our minds, influencing us without any involvement of our senses. We do not see, hear, taste, smell, or feel anything while this communication occurs. Additionally, the overwhelming influence of beliefs, values, and practices absorbed from our native cultures originates from satan, who has deceived the whole world and communicates enslaving traits to all of mankind. This pervasive influence shapes our pre-conversion heart, affecting our relationship with God, and underscores the need to understand the evil communicated either directly by satan and his demons or through the course of this world.
Communication and Coming Out of Babylon (Part 3)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughCommunication with spirit beings has profoundly shaped human nature and character since the beginning. God purposefully allowed Adam and Eve to be tested by satan, who held beliefs, attitudes, and purposes contrary to God's. They freely chose to submit to this evil spirit, fully aware of satan's presence during their interaction, even seeing him. Unlike their experience, humans now face a more challenging situation, as spirit beings can transfer thoughts to us without our awareness. This initial contact with satan marked the start of an evil world, as the influence from that communication was passed down through generations, permeating the earth with satan's spirit and the cultures created by a deceived mankind. Unbeknown to most, humanity faces a dual threat from demons and the world they have shaped, leading to a loss of innocence and a self-centered, deceived state. The majority remain unaware of their bondage to satan, often rejecting the truth due to spiritual blindness. Sin, demonstrating a lack of love and loyalty to our Creator, seals the death penalty on each sinner and denies access to communication with God, leaving individuals under satan's continued influence. However, through faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the barrier to God is removed, opening the way for communication with Him and fostering a relationship that is essential for salvation. This relationship with the Father and the Son is everything, as it provides the necessary communication to counter the world's influence and make right choices. The communication from God tips the scales in our favor in the spiritual war for survival, if we continue to believe and trust in it. Without this relationship, there is no communication from God, leaving the world without the intimate contact needed to truly know Him. The only spirituality the world can communicate is inducements to sin, insistently and attractively, as satan induced Adam and Eve to sin. To reverse the process that drew us into the world, communication with God must be increased and intensified, while communication with the world must be decreased. God mercifully calls us, miraculously altering our minds to think on things related to Him with clarity and forcefulness previously unknown. This communication, whether through His written word or direct thought transfer, is vital for maintaining a personal relationship with Him, enabling us to make choices aligned with His will.
Communication and Coming Out of Babylon (Part 2)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughCommunication with spirit beings occurs through thought transference that bypasses the five senses entirely, allowing invisible and immaterial influence to implant thoughts, attitudes, or impulses directly into the human mind. This process, described as the work of pneuma, conveys either the vital principles and disposition of God the Father and Jesus Christ or the deceptive power of Satan and his demons who share the earthly environment. Because no sight, sound, taste, smell, or touch registers during the transfer, the recipient remains unaware that external direction has occurred, yet the implanted content can motivate immediate belief, speech, or action or remain stored for later activation. Biblical instances illustrate the mechanism: the Spirit of the Father supplies words during persecution, a lying spirit directs the counsel of Ahab's prophets, and Satan prompts Peter's rebuke of Jesus' necessary suffering. Such unseen communication forms the core of the course of this world, an aggregate of carnal dispositions absorbed from birth that shapes national and personal character while remaining uniformly hostile to God. The same influence sustains the deceitful and incurably evil heart that resists divine law and prevents unaided approach to Christ. Only the Father's drawing, which implants a new heart and places His Spirit within the called, supplies the countervailing power that enables recognition of these influences and the sustained choice to reject them, thereby effecting spiritual separation from Babylon.
The Holy Spirit and the Trinity (Part Three)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughSpirit, as an invisible and internal force, plays a significant role in communication between beings, influencing attitudes and conduct. The power of one being's spirit, whether it be God, man, or demon, can affect another, transferring influence almost like a contagious disease. This dynamic is evident in the way Satan's spirit, described as destructive and deceitful, incites doubt and rebellion against God, impacting mankind's spiritual state and perpetuating a nature of disobedience. In contrast, God's Spirit, infinitely greater and pure in motivation, interfaces with individuals to reveal truth and guide them toward a relationship with Him. This divine interaction can stir the spirit of a person, as seen when the Lord moved the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia, to issue a proclamation for rebuilding the temple, demonstrating how God can influence thoughts and actions without removing free will. Moreover, God can stir the spirits of leaders and remnants of people, as with Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the remnant of Judah, motivating them to work on His house. Conversely, a lying spirit, permitted by the Lord, can entice through false prophets, as illustrated in the case of Ahab, showing that spirits, whether divine or demonic, can interface with human spirits to direct behavior or attitudes. Despite these powerful influences, individuals are not without resources; they can discern truth through God's Spirit and choose to yield to it, resisting the foul spirit that may rise within. God's faithfulness ensures that no temptation exceeds what one can bear, always providing a way of escape. Thus, communication with spirit beings, whether through divine guidance or deceptive influence, shapes human conduct and spiritual alignment, with God's Spirit offering the ultimate power to overcome and follow truth.
The Holy Spirit and the Trinity (Part Four)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughSpirit is an invisible and immaterial activating dimension of mind that communicates between persons through words, attitudes, and dispositions, generating emotional, attitudinal, and behavioral reactions without any material contact. A merry heart produces a cheerful countenance while sorrow of heart breaks the spirit, and the two interact so that one affects the other and both produce outward effects on health and conduct. Words function as spirit in this process, for a soft answer turns away wrath while grievous words stir up anger, and a word fitly spoken brings benefit like cold water to a thirsty soul. Because words carry this magnetic power, death and life lie in the power of the tongue, and the receiver's own spirit discerns and reacts to the spirit conveyed, sometimes requiring clarification when the intended meaning is misread. God employs the same principle when He imparts supernatural ability through His Spirit, filling Bezaleel and Aholiab with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge beyond their natural skill so they could perform the work of the tabernacle. The Spirit of the Lord likewise came upon Samson, enabling feats of strength no unaided human could accomplish. Demons exercise a parallel supernatural influence, empowering a man to break chains that would otherwise injure him. In every case the communicated spirit originates outside the person yet produces visible results within the limits of the recipient's mind and body. The same mode of communication operates when God places His laws into the mind and writes them on the heart, transforming believers into the image of His family by the Spirit of the Lord. This occurs through ongoing contact with His Word and His presence, allowing His characteristics to take up residence in the same manner that parental traits dwell in children, without any requirement for literal physical indwelling. The relationship remains spiritual, consisting of shared mind, attitude, and purpose rather than material location.
