God the Father (Part 1)

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God the Father holds supreme command as the highest authority within the Godhead, intricately involved in the divine plan to bring many sons to glory through Jesus Christ. His personal engagement was crucial in Christ's sacrifice and resurrection, ensuring its success, and He remains actively involved in the upbringing of His children. He personally regenerates His saints, offering a profound promise alongside Jesus Christ to preserve and keep them through Their power. Despite His deep involvement, the world remains largely unaware of Him, blinded to the true knowledge of His identity and plan, which causes immense suffering. God the Father, as the epitome of love, is revealed through Jesus Christ, who came to fully disclose Him to the called and chosen. He has intentionally hidden His identity from the world while revealing it to His church, with Jesus Christ deciding, in connection with Him, who will know Him. As Creator and sustainer of the universe, He created all things through Jesus Christ, authorizing the works of creation carried out by the Word. The ultimate source of biblical truth, He directs Jesus Christ, who carries out His will with enthusiasm and without hesitation, as They are in full agreement and of one purpose. His attributes, revealed through Scripture, showcase His nature as Spirit, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal, immutable, and unchangeable, among others. Being Spirit, He has no physical form yet possesses form and shape in the spiritual realm, invisible to the human eye but seen in visions by prophets like Daniel. His immutability ensures that His character, will, purpose, and counsel remain unchanging, providing a foundation of certainty and hope for salvation and eternal life. His laws and truth are constant, unaffected by time or human standards, establishing Him as the standard of perfection. As the moral Ruler and supreme Judge, He stands against sin from eternity to eternity, His fatherly grace unable to avert judgment on the unrepentant. Through Jesus Christ, He offers salvation and eternal life to His potential firstborn children, embodying fatherhood as selfless love, forgiveness, education, and sincere communication. He is the ideal of perfection to which all should aspire, guiding His children through His teachings and example as revealed by Jesus Christ.

The Father-Son Relationship (Part Four)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God the Father holds supreme command as the Absolute Deity, the sole Head over all, including His Son, Jesus Christ. The Father is the Source, greater in function and responsibility, while the Son, though of the God-kind, is subordinate and submissive to Him. Christ Himself acknowledged this hierarchy, declaring that He has a God, and that God is His Father, both during His time in the flesh and after His resurrection as a spirit being. The Father's authority is evident as He sent the Son, gave Him assignments, and prepared a body for Him to fulfill His will. Christ's glory lies in His perfect submission to the Father, carrying out every task assigned to Him, such as preaching the gospel, witnessing God's existence, serving as an example, and dying for the sins of the world. The unity between the Father and the Son is not in shared essence but in the Son's loving obedience to the Father's supreme will. The Father appointed Christ as the Head of the church for its benefit, yet even this authority is limited by the Father's overarching command. The principle is clear: the lesser is blessed by the better, with the Father as the ultimate Source of all blessings, revealing Himself through the Son, who complements and completes the revelation of the Father's nature.

The Father-Son Relationship (Part Two)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God the Father holds supreme command as the ultimate Source of all things and the One toward whom all creation moves. He is the invisible King of all creation, with no one, including Jesus Christ, superseding His authority. The Father is consistently shown as the only true God, greater than the Son, establishing a clear hierarchy. Jesus Himself acknowledges this relationship, stating that the Father sent Him and provided Him with all that is necessary to carry out His role. The Father is the origin of all attributes, reputation, and actions demonstrated through Christ, giving to the Son the disciples and the words to fulfill His purpose. Referred to as the Supreme God and the Great God, the Father stands as the Absolute Deity, distinct from the Son, who serves as His Image and Channel, revealing the Father's nature and purpose to humanity.

The Father-Son Relationship (Part One)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

The Father is the source of everything and the Son is the channel through which He carries out His purpose. Jesus declared that the Father is superior to Him.

The Father-Son Relationship (Part Five)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Although Christ is not the Absolute Deity, He is nevertheless the complement of the Father. He had a pre-existence as the God of the Old Testament.

The Sovereignty of God (Part Eleven)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Understanding God's sovereignty as a basic doctrine provides a link between knowledge and practice, as well as providing motivation to yield to God's purpose.
