How Did They Overcome? (Part Three)
CGG Weekly by David C. GrabbeSatan's influence is a pervasive force, both within us through our corrupted human nature and around us in this evil world. Yet, God provides the means to resist satan and his evil, being the driving force who brings about the victory. Jesus teaches us to pray daily for deliverance from evil, acknowledging that we cannot achieve this on our own. Through the blood of the Lamb, we find the first step in overcoming satan, recognizing our utter dependence on Him to do anything at all. As Jesus declares, without Him, we can do nothing. Overcoming satan also comes through the message of our witness, which is grounded in the way we live. A good testimony, reflecting a life consistent with God's message, is essential. True overcomers actively make use of all that God provides, empowered by the blood of the Lamb to live according to God's way, something impossible for carnal man. Their conduct demonstrates the indwelling of God's Spirit, enabling them to choose God's way over satan's, the world's, and human nature's corrupt paths. Though not sinless, overcomers walk ever closer with God, moving farther from satan and his ways through the deliberate practice of living by God's standards. Furthermore, overcoming satan involves an attitude of complete surrender to God, not loving our lives even to the point of death. Under the blood of the Lamb, we are transformed from slaves to sin into slaves of righteousness, our lives no longer our own. Christ requires that we love Him above all else, standing in truth without compromise, even if it means physical death. Such a stand, whether in minor or ultimate battles, shows the value we place on the blood shed for us, and in this way, satan is overcome. God equips us with the armor to stand against satan, providing every piece—truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is God's Word. We do not create this armor; we must only use what He supplies. Through submission to God, He overcomes and delivers us from the evil within and around us, crushing satan under our feet. Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
How Did They Overcome? (Part One)
CGG Weekly by David C. GrabbeIn the messages to the seven churches in Revelation 2 and 3, Jesus Christ evaluates the works of His people and emphasizes the importance of overcoming. He promises extraordinary blessings to those who conquer, such as eating from the Tree of Life, not being hurt by the second death, receiving hidden manna, holding power over nations, being clothed in white garments, becoming a pillar in the Temple of God, and sitting with Christ on His throne. Additionally, Revelation 21:7 declares that he who overcomes shall inherit all things, with God affirming, "I will be his God and he shall be My son." Overcoming is vital, and Revelation 12:10-11 highlights how God's people achieve this victory. satan, as an accuser, points out the sins of God's people with likely accuracy, not needing to fabricate charges. Despite the evident filth of sin, God chooses to remove the iniquity rather than exacting its wages. This removal of sin is crucial for overcoming, as it prevents discouragement from satan's accusations. satan's fiery darts aim to make God's people feel worthless and hopeless, tempting them to give up. However, when sins are acknowledged, repented of, and forgiveness is sought, Christ's blood cleanses the conscience, allowing continued service to God without the burden of guilt. The shield of faith, rooted in confidence in the atoning sacrifice of the Lamb of God, quenches these fiery darts, enabling God's people to rise above the weight of sin and persist in their journey of overcoming.
