The Father-Son Relationship (Part Eight)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

We have been chosen to have the true relationship revealed to us, and to believe that it is the Father and Son's Spirit that dwells in us, by which we have been regenerated as sons of God. This regeneration through Their Spirit marks us as children of God, aligning us with the family terminology used in Scripture. Those regenerated by Their Spirit are called sons of God, reinforcing the family aspect that binds us to Them in purpose and unity.

God the Father (Part 1)

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God the Father is deeply involved in bringing many sons to glory through Jesus Christ. His personal involvement in Christ's sacrifice and resurrection was essential, and He continues to actively raise His children. We have the promise from our Father and Jesus Christ that They will keep and preserve us with Their power. God the Father personally regenerates His saints, qualifying them for the Kingdom of God alongside Jesus Christ. Those in God's church are referred to as both sons and children, implying that we will one day be more like Him, though even now we are in His image and likeness. Already, a Family exists in heaven, not the angelic family, but the Family in which we are sons and daughters, part of that heavenly Family while still on earth. This heavenly Family consists of many members and is growing, a dynamic family comprised of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Before anything else came into existence, there was God and the Word, two Supreme Beings who coexisted, with the Word later becoming Jesus Christ. Both God the Father and Jesus Christ took part in creation, with the Father creating through Jesus Christ, working in harmony to begin the creation of new sons for the Kingdom.

The Nature of God: Elohim

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

The concept of the 'Sons of God' is intricately tied to the understanding of Elohim, revealing a profound truth about the nature of the Godhead. Elohim, a plural term used over 2,570 times in the Old Testament, signifies more than one divine being, indicating a family or assembly of powerful ones. In the New Testament, Jesus identifies two within this Godhead as the Father and the Son, affirming His own place within Elohim by asserting His unity with the Father. Remarkably, the Bible extends this divine family to include human beings in whom the Spirit of God dwells, calling them sons of God. Scriptures show that believers are already considered part of the Godhead, described as children of Elohim and members of His Family, which exists both in heaven and on earth. This challenges the narrow view of monotheism, revealing that Elohim is expanding, increasing the number who are part of the Godhead. God is creating a growing family, a kingdom where many are united as one, acting in perfect harmony. Jesus used family terminology—Father, Son, children, brothers, sisters—to help us grasp this unity, praying that His disciples and all believers may be one with the Father and the Son through agreement and shared mind. The ultimate purpose is that each believer might be filled with the fullness of Elohim, becoming part of this divine institution, which is both a family and a kingdom, ever-growing until it encompasses all who are drawn into it.
