The concept that children show the characteristics of their parents is introduced through the description of Satan as king over all the children of pride. The term children is employed symbolically to indicate those who exhibit the traits of their spiritual parent rather than literal offspring. Pride is presented as the root of all sin and the source from which these descendants derive their nature, much as physical children display the features of their parents. This principle is illustrated by the sons of Belial, who are understood not as direct progeny but as individuals displaying the same attitudes of foolishness and rebellion associated with Satan. Jesus applied the identical idea when addressing those who showed the spiritual traits of their father the devil, specifically the lusts and inclinations that mark such descent. The dominant sin of mankind, rooted in pride and self-worship, is therefore traced to this spiritual parentage. Because Satan functions as a cunning conspirator who plots against God, those who are his children spiritually manifest the same conspiratorial character in their actions and schemes. This connection explains the human participation in efforts to establish a one-world government, as individuals under Satan's influence naturally reflect his methods of deception, manipulation, and opposition to divine purpose while pursuing their own ends.

Pride originated in Satan when his heart was lifted up by his beauty, leading him to exalt himself above his Creator and corrupt his wisdom for the sake of splendor. This same being is portrayed as Leviathan, a powerful entity without fear who is king over all the children of pride. The phrase children of pride refers to those who share the characteristics of their father or king, displaying the same self-exaltation, competitiveness, and resistance to authority. These children include the overwhelming masses of unconverted people who remain unsubmissive to God and stand as enemies of both the Father and the Son. Jesus confirmed this lineage when He told certain individuals they were of their father the Devil, indicating that pride and its associated traits pass from one to another through influence and association rather than physical descent. The pattern began with Satan, spread to other angels, then reached Adam and Eve, and from them extended to all humanity. As a result, the carnal mind in every person contains this inherited element of pride that generates evil thoughts, self-centered ambition, and enmity against God. This internal drive continually hinders voluntary submission to divine sovereignty and perfect agreement with the Father and the Son, forming the major barrier that must be overcome through the development of humility.

Children inevitably display the characteristics of their parents, and this principle is used to explain the spiritual condition of humanity both before and after conversion. Before God's intervention, all people were spiritually the children of Satan, exhibiting his characteristics through sin and worldly behavior, just as Christ told the Pharisees that they were of their father the Devil because they practiced his works. This same principle applies to every person prior to God's calling, forgiveness, and justification, since Ephesians describes all as once being children of wrath, following the course of this world under Satan's influence. Through God's intervention, however, a change of parentage occurs. God calls individuals into a relationship symbolically described as adoption, becoming their Father after removing them from Satan's grasp. The Holy Spirit granted at this adoption serves as a witness, both to the individual and to the world, confirming that one has become a child of God. Romans 8 explains that those led by God's Spirit are His sons, and as sons, they will naturally begin to exhibit the same spiritual characteristics as their Father. This is the direct outworking of the principle that children reflect their parents: those begotten by God's Spirit will increasingly display God's nature, just as those who remain unconverted display Satan's. This transformation is meant to produce a witness far superior to that of the flesh alone. Nominal obedience to God's law such as Sabbath-keeping, tithing, or avoiding unclean meats can be maintained even while a person still exhibits the works of the flesh: anger, jealousy, dissension, impurity, or revelry. Such a person, though technically law-abiding, still bears the marks of his former spiritual father rather than God, because his conduct does not reflect divine character. By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control develops gradually in those who are truly led by God's Spirit, marking them as genuine children of God rather than merely rule-keepers. This distinction connects directly to the larger purpose of God's calling: to make His people a genuine witness to the world, first through physical Israel's law and now through the spiritual Israel's possession of the Holy Spirit. Just as offspring reveal their parentage through shared traits, God's children are meant to reveal their heavenly Father's nature through Spirit-led transformation, fulfilling the very purpose for which the Spirit was given—to reproduce God's image and character in His spiritual family, distinguishing them from the fallen, Satan-influenced nature of the world around them.
