A Band of Christian Brothers

Sermon by Ted E. Bowling

As Christian soldiers, we are called to stand fast in a spiritual battle, not with traditional weapons or against people, but striving toward the Kingdom of Heaven with singleness of mind and purpose. We must be disciplined in study and prayer, courageous in doing right, and loyal to Jesus Christ, even amidst difficulties. Every day, we face challenges to our faith—trials, temptations, fear, distractions, and pressures to compromise. God has called us to follow Him, to put on spiritual armor, and to trust Him in this fight. We are in a spiritual conflict with satan the devil, the world, and our own human nature. Just as soldiers endure hardships and learn discipline to survive, we too must endure spiritual hardships, facing times of pain, sorrow, and even depression or bitterness. Our lives depend on this discipline and obedience, trained through God's Holy Spirit, services, prayers, and study. Jesus Christ, our Leader, stands by our side, providing unending encouragement and unfailing hope, ensuring we are never alone in this battle. Standing firm in Christ means He will be with us as we stand up for Him. Only through His strength and power can we overcome this spiritual war. As a band of Christian brothers and sisters, we are unified by God, not divided, but knit together as one body, promoting growth through bonds of love and unity. We must stand together, relying on each other, especially in adversity, knowing that our Savior is with us. Our first responsibilities are to God and to our Commander, Jesus Christ. We are called to endure hardship, not seek comfort, and to face spiritual battles with patience and a vision of the Kingdom of God. Whether isolated or separated by miles, we do not stand alone; our brethren and our Savior support us. Jesus Christ, the Captain of our salvation, leads us through trials, never putting us through more than we can handle, calling us to stand and endure together, growing both individually and collectively through shared suffering.
