Confidence
Sermon by James BeaubelleIn the journey of faith, a strong confidence in God is essential, built over time as we work out our salvation and trust that He will complete the good work He has begun in us. We must recognize that God is never slack in His responsibilities as Creator, actively watching over us to do good and guiding events to build a life of faith that glorifies Him. This confidence assures us that we can rely on His promises, no matter the circumstances, knowing that those He has called will be brought into His kingdom through the sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Yet, this confidence is a two-way affair. God tests His saints through trials to confirm His trust in our faith and obedience, just as He tested Abraham with the command to sacrifice Isaac. Before this test, there may have been room for doubt in God's mind about Abraham's commitment, but upon Abraham's obedience, God declared, "Now I know," and doubt was removed, leading to promises and blessings for Abraham and his descendants. Similarly, in the account of Daniel's three companions—Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah—their unyielding confidence in God's providential care was displayed as they faced the fiery furnace, united in their bold declaration that they served only one God, regardless of the outcome. However, confidence can be undermined, as seen in the great lie spoken by satan to Eve in Genesis. This deception stripped her belief in God's words, eroding her confidence in His care and leading her and Adam from walking with Him to hiding in fear due to their transgression. Let us not fall into such distrust but instead confidently seek Him at all times, coming boldly before the throne of grace with faith, assured of His strength and compassion for His children.
