Satan (Part 3)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Satan the devil holds significant authority and influence over the nations of the earth, a power so extensive that Jesus called him the ruler of this world and the prince of the power of the air. His ability to affect people's attitudes is profound, moving their reasoning processes toward the satisfaction of self, often in a way that they are not even aware of being influenced toward evil. This influence manifests through disinformation and by stirring up the human spirit, directing individuals to prioritize self over God or others, which is contrary to righteousness and truth. His pervasive presence is likened to air, seemingly weightless and ethereal, yet capable of carrying powerful signals or vibrations. Just as radio or television signals are always present but require tuning in to be perceived, satan is always on our wavelength, able to communicate with us unless we actively tune him out through an exercise of will and faith. His spirit or attitude radiates out, permeating environments with deceit and deviousness, often hidden behind a facade that masks his true intentions. This influence can change attitudes instantly, much like picking up on someone's mood without a word being spoken, leading to negative feelings such as hatred or envy. Satan's broadcasts often result in confusion, division, and ultimately warfare, following a trajectory that begins with feelings of being unfairly treated. This pattern started with satan himself, when he felt God treated him unfairly, leading to vanity and a lie he told himself about deserving a higher position, prompting him to attack God. This same trajectory often plays out among humans, where hurt feelings open the door to his influence, fostering thoughts of deserving better treatment, which can escalate to bitterness, division, and conflict if not brought under control.

The Great Conspiracy

'Prophecy Watch' by Earl L. Henn

Satan is revealed as the ruler of this world, possessing authority over all kingdoms, which he delegates to whomever he wishes. During the temptation of Jesus Christ, satan offered Him all the kingdoms of the world in exchange for worship, claiming that this authority had been delivered to him. Jesus Himself acknowledged satan as the ruler of this world. Satan does not rule alone but commands a vast army of fallen angels, referred to as demons, who are described as principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness of this age, engaging in spiritual warfare against humanity. God permits satan and his demons to influence the rulers of nations to fulfill divine prophecies. In the end times, satan, symbolized as the dragon, will grant power, throne, and great authority to a world-ruling empire and its leader, mirroring the offer made to Jesus Christ. This empire will control all aspects of life, enforcing idolatry and economic dominance, bringing severe trials to God's people. Additionally, satan and his demons invisibly influence human decisions, broadcasting attitudes and thoughts that lead to wars and atrocities throughout history, keeping men separated from God. This conspiracy for the minds of men will persist as long as satan and his demons rule this world, continuing to be the invisible force behind global events and human suffering. However, God's prophecies assure that Jesus Christ has qualified to depose satan as ruler. Upon Christ's return, satan will be bound, unable to influence nations or individuals, ushering in a thousand years of peace, happiness, and prosperity.

Jesus Christ's Purposeful Manifestation

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

Satan operates at cross purposes with God and humanity, frustrating and deceiving people while leading them into destruction within the parameters established by God. As the sworn enemy of humanity, satan exerts significant control over the world, producing results known as the works of the devil. This world has become the kingdom of satan, who rules as the prince of demons, the tempter, the evil one, and the ancient serpent, epitomizing evil in every form. Originally, helel, a super archangel and cherub, was placed on earth's throne to administer God's government over the angels, enjoying peace and happiness. However, helel's pride and envy of God's power led him to rebel, attempting to unseat God by marshaling an invading army of angels. After this failed rebellion, satan was confined to earth, where he enticed Adam and Eve to sin, resulting in the fallen state of the world. Consequently, mankind became the property of the devil, living under his diabolical authority ever since. Satan's power lies in deception, leading the whole world astray with lies about God's truth and way of life. His methods have brought global problems such as false teachers, wars, famines, pestilences, diseases, and persecution of God's people. The devil's ultimate goal is to destroy humanity to prevent them from becoming part of God's Family, knowing that his time is limited before his judgment. He pursues the church with vengeance, determined to destroy as many as possible, driven by a thirst for power and control rooted in pride. At the close of this age, satan's wrath will bring indescribable suffering and death, inciting nations to gather for a final world war against the returning Son of God. His authority, though limited, persists until Christ's second coming, when Jesus Christ will oust the devil, restore God's laws, and establish order and peace on earth. Christ, having conquered satan through His obedience and faithfulness during temptations, is qualified to take over the rule of the earth. Upon His return, He will finally undo and destroy all the works of satan, banishing him and his cohorts from God's sight, completing the victory over the kingdom of darkness.

What I Believe About Conspiracy Theories

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Satan's authority over the earth is a foundational element in understanding the spiritual warfare at play. The wicked one, satan, holds authority over all the operations of the cultural systems on earth, reigning as the king over what the Bible calls the world. This position is marked by deception and plotting, characteristics that are reflected in his spiritual descendants, who show the same traits of cunning and conspiracy. In terms of attitude, satan's position is defined by pride, considered the father of all sin. This pride manifests as idolatry, often self-worship, and underpins the dominant sin of mankind. The demons, under satan's influence, view humanity as invaders of their territory, defending what they consider their home despite knowing that God has given the earth to humans as an inheritance. This spiritual parallel mirrors historical conflicts where inhabitants resisted newcomers, fully aware of divine promises yet fighting to retain control. Satan's influence extends to manipulating men to turn against God, deceiving them into worshipping him while believing they serve the true God. Through history, as seen with figures like Nimrod, satan and his demons have conspired against God's purpose, attempting to unify mankind under one government antagonistic to God's plan. This recurring theme of conspiracy is evident in various biblical accounts where satan's sway leads to efforts to establish supra-world governments, counterfeiting God's ultimate plan for a divine kingdom. As a spirit being, satan mirrors God's methods but with evil intent, using men, motivating and inspiring them, even possessing them to fulfill his schemes. Unlike God, whose purposes are pure, satan's operations are driven by self-interest, manipulating human nature to achieve disloyalty and power. His plans, unconstrained by death and invisible to human eyes, involve forming counterfeit religions, governments, and systems that deceive mankind without the Spirit of God to discern the truth. Satan's kingdom, though divided and marked by confusion, pursues a common goal of a supranational government and religion. Despite internal conflicts and competition among various groups under his influence, the drive for self-interest remains so strong that even satan cannot fully control it, leading to inevitable fractures within his schemes. Yet, his subtle and cunning nature continues to orchestrate conspiracies, drawing the world toward a counterfeit order that opposes God's sovereign will.

Communication and Coming Out of Babylon (Part 1)

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

In this age, an evil influence pervades the world, driving defections from the church as people respond to its allure. This influence traces back to the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve, under satan's sway, disbelieved God and adopted his reasoning, spreading this alien spirit to all mankind. Satan's impact became a way of life for virtually all humanity, refined and imposed through Babylon under leaders like Nimrod and Nebuchadnezzar, though God intervened to destroy those powers. Now, in the end-time, Babylon's influence is worldwide, amplified by mass communication networks that disseminate its anti-God message into the minds of men. Satan, described as the prince of the power of the air, commands a jurisdiction over the air surrounding the earth down to its inhabitants, wielding authority alongside his demonic forces. This realm of air serves as a medium for communication, through which satan's invisible influence operates subtly and powerfully, often without audible words, affecting human thoughts and attitudes. The battle against this influence is internal, fought hand-to-hand in close combat under the canopy of air inhabited by foul demons, requiring steadfast faith and discipline to resist. Though imprisoned on earth after a decisive defeat, satan's first estate became his prison, yet he retains a measure of liberty under God's restraint. God sets limits on satan's actions, as seen in interactions where he is permitted to go only so far, respecting these boundaries out of fear. However, under certain circumstances, God may lift these restraints, allowing satan's power to manifest more intensely, as foretold in prophecies of future intergalactic wars where restraints will be removed, leading to increased trouble, especially for the church. The course of this world, driven by satan's subtle informing spirit, operates as a powerful force that entraps and enslaves humanity within an orderly system of deception, cloaked by restless activity. This course, an invisible influence absorbed by the general population, moves individuals along the path of carnality, often without their awareness. Resisting this requires controlling the communication from satan's forces, recognizing their ability to transmit thoughts through the air, and relying on God's Spirit to reject the pervasive influence of this world.

Communication and Leaving Babylon (Part One)

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

The course of this world, steeped in anti-God fullness, traces its origins to the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve, under the deceitful influence of satan, disbelieved God and followed the devil's reasoning. This alien spirit spread through generations, becoming the way of life for mankind until God called a few to repent. In the last days, as prophesied, Babylon's influence is worldwide, with powerful communication networks disseminating its ways against the Creator and His people. The apostle John confirms in Revelation 12:9 that there is no place to run, as the great dragon, that serpent of old called the devil and satan, deceives the whole world, having been cast to the earth with his angels. Paul writes in II Corinthians 4:3-4 that the minds of those perishing are blinded by the god of this age, preventing the light of the gospel of Christ from shining on them. This invisible ruler, the prince of the power of the air, along with his demonic hordes, exerts a powerful spiritual communication that is difficult to resist, even for those aware of it. The battle to resist is almost entirely internal, fought where we live and conduct life, with the influence of satan through Babylon's communication being ubiquitous. In Ephesians 2:1-3, Paul hints at an unseen dimension to this influence, suggesting that demonic counterparts, symbolized as foul and unclean birds, inhabit the ocean of air alongside us. These spirit beings, vibrating at a different frequency, are invisible to our eyes but can communicate their thoughts and attitudes to our minds through the air that supports our lives, often without our awareness. The Bible reveals that earth was their first estate, and they fight fiercely to retain what they believe is theirs, hating us for becoming like the Father and Son, knowing that this earth will be given to the sons of God. Deception is communicated through the culture we are born into, a medium of corrupting influence. Despite being freed by God's revelation, the urgent admonition from our Lord and Savior is to take action, as this communication can be reabsorbed, enslaving us once again. The spirit of this world, characterized by self-centeredness, was chosen by mankind under the influence of the same evil spirit that swayed Adam and Eve, shaping the course of this world through continuous exposure to satan's dark forces.

The Adversary

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

Satan's authority is a significant reality that we must acknowledge. Jesus Christ Himself declared in Luke 10 that He saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning, affirming his existence and his dramatic fall from a position of great power. Jesus further stated that He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy, providing protection so that we are not harmed by his schemes. Despite this, Satan remains active, seeking to destroy us. In Isaiah 14, we see an Old Testament account of this same fall, where Satan is described as being cut down to the ground and brought to a place of restraint, a form of exile or prison. This indicates that, though cast down, he still operates within a confined sphere of influence on earth. Ezekiel 28 reveals his former glory as an anointed cherub who covered God's throne, positioned at the very heart of divine governance, yet his pride led to his rebellion and casting out as a profane entity. Jesus Christ repeatedly identified Satan as the ruler of this world in John 12:31, John 14:30, and John 16:11, emphasizing his current dominion over earthly affairs. During the temptations recorded in Matthew 4 and Luke 4, Satan claimed the power to give authority over all the kingdoms of the world, a claim Jesus did not contradict, underscoring that Satan still holds a measure of rule over the earth, though it is a form of imprisonment. Satan wields significant influence over the nations in politics and international affairs, as well as immense spiritual power. Even though Jesus has defeated him and qualified to replace him as ruler of the earth, Satan remains a formidable force. He is the power behind the beast that will arise and the ultimate cause of the great tribulation, as seen in Revelation 9, where he is named Abaddon and Apollyon, meaning destruction and destroyer. In Revelation 12, Satan is depicted as the fiery red dragon, the serpent of old who deceived the whole world, showing his pervasive influence over all humanity. His ability to deceive remains a constant threat, even to those called out of the world, requiring vigilance to unlearn his deceptions and resist his spirit. He also acts as the accuser of the brethren, slandering and accusing us before God, seeking to trip us up and cause us to sin, with the ultimate goal of leading us to repudiate God. Despite his power, we are not without means to overcome him. Through the blood of the Lamb, we are forgiven and granted a relationship with the Father, which provides strength to resist Satan's temptations. By living according to God's truth, our conduct serves as a testimony that counters his influence. Finally, by not clinging to our lives even in the face of death, we demonstrate sacrificial love and unwavering commitment to God's truth, resisting compromise at every turn. Satan's presence is hidden and camouflaged in this world, making it dangerous to ignore his existence. We must remain humble, trust in God, stay self-controlled, and be watchful for signs of his influence. By resisting him with spiritual strength and enduring any resulting suffering, we can cause him to flee, assured that God will work with us to perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle us in our fight against this adversary.

Is the United States a Christian Nation? (Part Two)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)

Satan the devil is the adversary of God and man, the destroyer who influences the kingdoms of this world. As the leader of principalities and powers, unseen angelic beings ruling over men on earth, he is unknowingly worshipped as a god by those who are not Christians. Rulership of the earth was given to him, granting him the authority to bestow worldly governmental power to whomsoever he wishes, whether as king, dictator, president, or any other title. This authority cannot be taken from him until the rightful Ruler, Jesus Christ, casts him out upon His return as King of kings and Lord of lords. Until then, his manipulative, controlling, competitive, destructive, and adversarial spiritual influence undermines every ruler and body of rulership on earth, including the United States of America. As the active CEO of all earthly kingdoms, his presence pollutes every government, an influence Christians must reckon with, resist, and overcome in their lives. These principalities and powers actively work their own agenda to retain their position, fighting hard against Christians, who are their enemy, and influencing the world's governments to follow their desired direction.

Jude and the Glorious Power of God

Sermon by Mark Schindler

Attributing the messages of God's spokesmen as coming from Satan constitutes speaking evil of dignitaries. Jude emphasizes submission to divine authority.
