This attitude severs people from the power of God's Word, preventing the character formation and eternal life that flow only from faithful acceptance and application of truth.

People despise truth by stumbling across it yet choosing to ignore its implications and continue in familiar patterns of life. This rejection appears early when Adam and Eve turned from God's clear instruction, and it persists whenever individuals or societies allow small falsehoods to replace divine revelation. Jesus declared that He came to bear witness to truth and that those devoted to it would submit to His voice, yet Pilate dismissed the claim with a cynical question that revealed his unwillingness to accept absolute standards. The result is widespread self-deception: people celebrate days whose origins they know to be false, justify ethical shortcuts in the name of national interest or personal comfort, and blame genes, stars, or circumstances rather than accept moral responsibility. The deceitful human heart actively resists continued growth in truth, preferring the weak and beggarly elements of human philosophy that carry only fragments of reality while remaining hostile to God's full revelation. Because discipleship requires abiding in Christ's word, despising truth halts progress toward maturity and separates a person from the Kingdom. Those who refuse to press forward remain captive to the very lies that first led humanity astray, confirming that the search for truth must remain lifelong and uncompromising if one is to be freed from sin and its effects.
