The Whole Truth

'Ready Answer' by John O. Reid

The world suffers greatly because it lacks the truth, or more completely, because even though the truth is available, most will not accept it. In American culture, media often portrays premarital or extramarital sex as exciting and pleasurable, which is true but not the whole truth, as it omits the guilt of breaking God's seventh commandment and the resulting stress, harm, unwanted pregnancy, or sexual disease. Nothing but the truth reveals that penalties follow sin, potentially leading to suffering, death, abortion, or addiction, ruining prospects for a proper marriage, family, home, and happy future. Avoiding the whole truth can have far-reaching consequences. Submitting to God's truth requires personal effort and often comes at great cost. God's Holy Spirit guides and reminds us of the truth, but applying it in our lives is our responsibility. God may place us in repeated situations until we grasp the need for change, yet we must ultimately submit to His truth, even when it conflicts with our desires. God's truth, as seen in Proverbs, prompts us to evaluate our actions in areas like finances, relationships, and work, ensuring we make prudent decisions by measuring our desires against His instruction. Nowhere is truth more vital than in understanding how to worship God. Proper worship involves changing our lives to live as He lives in every facet, reflecting His character in all we do, which brings Him great honor. Practically, truth means shutting out deliberate falsehood and hypocrisy, reflecting truth in all dealings with others. Truth builds and encourages, while falsehood tears down faith and trust. Acknowledging God in all endeavors, not just in crisis, ensures that His way becomes our way, allowing us to worship Him in Spirit and truth. Jesus Christ declares that abiding in His word makes us His disciples, promising that we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make us free. This freedom releases us from superstitions, wrong ways of living, and the ungodly practices of the world, fitting us for the Kingdom of God. This serves as ample motivation to seek and apply truth in our lives.
