Promised: Protection and Healing

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

God has promised us protection and healing, extending beyond just diseases to include safeguarding from terrorism, muggings, and other external threats. While we are not entirely immune to such dangers, we hold fast to God's assurances that He will be with us. These promises, however, are not absolute or unconditional; they require us to align with His will and purpose. We must approach these assurances with maturity, recognizing that God's sovereignty and overarching purpose take precedence. If His plan requires our sacrifice or even death to advance His greater goals, we accept that His will must be done. Understanding God's promises involves viewing them from His perspective, which often differs vastly from our own limited outlook. His commitment to protect and heal is clear, as seen in His presence among us to deliver and preserve us, and to surrender our enemies to us. As long as we dwell in the shelter of the Almighty, He offers protection from deception, pestilence, terror, war, and destruction. His constant presence with us, never leaving nor forsaking us, reinforces this promise. If we embody His love and show it to others, we have further assurance that He resides in us, casting out fear and ensuring that He will act in our best interest according to His divine plan.

Divine Protection Today?

'Ready Answer' by Staff

God has made great promises of protection to His obedient servants, as seen in the blessings given to Abraham and passed down through his descendants, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Ephraim, and Manasseh, to the children of Israel. These promises included miraculous physical protection, such as the rescue of the Israelites at the Red Sea from the Egyptians. In modern times, God's protection continued to manifest, as evidenced by the evacuation of Allied forces at Dunkirk in 1940, which paralleled the exodus through the Red Sea. Similarly, during the 1983 Falklands War, Britain experienced extraordinary instances of protection, such as the timely surrender of Argentine forces at Port Stanley when British ammunition was nearly depleted, and the survival of the troopship Canberra under attack due to an unforeseen structural reinforcement. God has also miraculously protected spiritual Israel, His true church, with accounts of divine intervention, like a Canadian minister and his wife being awakened by a loud voice to avoid a car crash. These promises of protection are conditional, requiring obedience, worship, and service to God, as He instructed Joshua before leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. With such faith and adherence, we can trust that God will provide His divine protection when needed, never failing those who follow Him.
