What to Believe?

CGG Weekly by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The overwhelming flood of information available can drive us to confusion, as we are tossed among differing viewpoints and persuasive rhetoric. Our minds, spinning from the chaos, yearn for calm and simplicity, yet such peace is elusive amidst this deluge. We are at the mercy of information providers, struggling to discern whom to trust for objective reporting, which facts are true, and which ideology holds merit. Listening to multiple sources may refine or further confuse our conclusions, and without the ability to organize this barrage, forming a coherent opinion becomes nearly impossible. As knowledge increases, many find themselves frantically bouncing between beliefs, unsure of what to accept as truth. The glut of information can be countered by the steadying influence of God's law, His standard for human conduct, which allows us to properly judge actions and brings true happiness amidst uncertainty.

Following the Bean

'WorldWatch' by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

In the complex shell game of world events, misinformation plays a critical role, adding layers of confusion to an already chaotic landscape. The sheer volume of information from newspapers, television, radio, internet news sites, bloggers, news magazines, governmental analyses, and private sources is staggering, making it nearly impossible to discern the truth. There is always the nagging fear that significant events are happening under the radar, out of sight, and beyond the awareness of most people. This concern fuels a shadowy realm of conspiracy theories where facts mingle uneasily with suppositions and distrust of institutions, raising the question of whether the vital nugget of knowledge lies hidden outside the mainstream. Moreover, the operator in this game, akin to a confidence trickster, can manipulate the flow of information, shifting focus at will and leaving observers none the wiser. In this deceptive environment, there is a risk of being distracted by satanic sleight-of-hand, diverting attention from more essential spiritual priorities.

The Usual Chaos

Commentary by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

In the midst of the coronavirus situation, a profound challenge emerges in distinguishing truth from falsehood. People have sickened and died, lives and wealth have been destroyed, yet there is a pervasive inability to trust the information provided by those in authority. From leaders to health organizations, media outlets to local officials, none seem reliable as sources of truth. Each appears to have an agenda, a fiefdom to protect, or a cause to advance. Even statistics and raw data are manipulated, with some areas inflating positive case numbers by a factor of ten, and others counting untested, possible cases as actual ones. The media often emphasize cases over deaths, instilling fear by suggesting the situation is worse than it is. This chaos reflects the overwhelming deceit that permeates the world, driven by satan the devil, the master of deceit. As God's people, the call is to rise above this misinformation, seek the truth, and rely solely on God, the only One who speaks with absolute certainty and does not lie. Trusting Him to lead through pestilence and challenges, faith becomes the foundation to navigate this turmoil.

Day of Deception

Commentary by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

When Jesus addressed the end of the age, His first warning was to guard against deception. He emphasized the danger of religious deception, with many coming in His name, claiming to be the Christ, and deceiving many. He also warned of false prophets and false messiahs who would mislead people, urging His followers not to believe them. Jesus foresaw a flood of falsehood, a miasma of misinformation, and a layer of lies coating everything in the end time. This time would be marked by untruth masquerading as truth, propaganda presenting sin and crime as benevolent, and reality being twisted into pretzels. His people would be in the midst of this, tasked with discerning what is true, right, and good. This deception extends beyond religion, permeating all areas of life, fueled by the vast expansion of communication. The overwhelming amount of information available is often contradictory, confusing, and presented with bias, as people slant it to serve their own ends. The gargantuan task for Christians is to guard their minds against deception during this unprecedented era of misinformation and outright lying.
