Through the observance of the Night to Be Much Observed, God reveals that Satan's entire system, identified as spiritual Egypt or Babylon, rests upon and draws its strength from mankind's slavery to him. This spiritual bondage mirrors the physical captivity in Egypt, where a whole nation departed without resistance because God restrained the captors. Satan recognizes that his domain will likewise crumble once God terminates that slavery, and therefore he strives to retain what he regards as his own. God's people have been enabled to depart from this satanic slavery solely because He maintains vigilant oversight, watching, guarding, and protecting them while Satan must remain powerless as his slaves depart. In the near future this pattern will repeat on a far larger scale when God's people leave the present system for a place of safety, after which Satan's structure of confusion and deception, founded entirely on spiritual slavery, will collapse and the entire world will be affected. The event thus commemorates that deliverance occurs because He keeps vigil.

What God is telling us spiritually is that Satan's whole system, spiritual Egypt and Babylon, is supported and sustained by man's slavery to him and his system. When that slavery ends, because it is a kingdom divided against itself, it will collapse. So Satan fights to preserve what he feels is his. And like the Israelites, we too are able to walk away from that slavery only because God keeps vigil. He watches over and observes, as Satan helplessly watches his slaves leave. The first day of Unleavened Bread draws our attention to the fact that our spiritual bondage to sin and the world is broken, and we are free to do what Moses stated in Egypt, to sacrifice to our God. The Exodus of Israel from Egypt occurred exactly 430 years to the day God made the covenant with Abraham, promising him descendants and ultimately possession of the earth. God was watching as they left, and continued watching all the way through the waters of the Red Sea, through the wilderness and into the Promised Land, providing for them the entire way. The Night To Be Much Observed is at least partly a night of watching, a night of watchful vigil of careful attention to the actual events and its symbolism in order to properly commemorate the liberty that it portends.
