Manhattan stands as the epitome of Babylon with its United Nations building, Wall Street, Rockefeller Center and the home of NBC. This place represents everything glitzy and empty in a materialistic world and materialistic culture. The city of Babylon once located in Iraq fell long ago. Revelation describes another Babylon known as Babylon the Great. This great city links to sexual immorality and a way of life that influences all nations. The reference points not to one confined spot but to an international way of life backed by vast economic and military powers. Such a system forms part of the present evil world that God will tear down while humbling mankind under the leadership of prideful satan. Survivors will abandon old cities and old ways to seek the new capital of the world in Jerusalem.

Babylon emerges in Scripture as the perfected embodiment of the evil world system introduced through Adam and Eve in Eden and then consolidated under Nimrod and Nebuchadnezzar. Its concepts of anti-God conduct were refined and imposed on concentrated populations before being spread by force to others. Earlier manifestations remained geographically limited, first to the Tigris-Euphrates region and later to the Fertile Crescent, yet both were destroyed by divine action. The end-time Babylon prophesied in Revelation 18 operates on a global scale, its influence reaching all nations through dominant armies, economic policies, educational systems, entrenched religions, and especially mass-communication networks that disseminate its deceptive way of life directly into human minds. This worldwide reach confirms Paul's statement in Galatians 1 that the present age is persistently evil and actively produces defections from the truth. Revelation 18 portrays Babylon as fallen, a habitation of demons and foul spirits, whose sins provoke God's judgment and whose seductive "wine" has intoxicated kings, merchants, and peoples everywhere. The urgent command to "come out of her" is therefore not a call to physical relocation, since the system's spiritual and psychological atmosphere pervades the entire earth, but a summons to reject its invisible ruler, the prince of the power of the air, whose thoughts and attitudes travel through the very medium that sustains human life. In this final manifestation Babylon functions as the visible generator and distributor of all evil, its heart centered in a city yet its power extended universally by technology and demonic influence, demanding constant vigilance so that God's people may remain free from its clutches until the kingdom arrives.
