What Is Faith?
Herbert W. Armstrong BookletFaith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen. It comes before possession, serving as the substance and confidence that what is hoped for will be received. Faith is not based on what can be seen, felt, or heard through the physical senses, but is a spiritual matter, rooted in trust in God's promises. When asking for something, such as healing, faith is the evidence that it will be granted, even before any tangible proof appears. In the face of doubt, faith requires patient trust in God's Word, recognizing that His timing and methods are not always as expected. It involves steadfast reliance on His promises, regardless of physical evidence to the contrary. Faith must precede possession and remain firm until God fulfills what He has promised. It is the assurance that God's Word is true and that He will act according to what He has declared, a confidence that sustains belief even when results are not immediate. Many lack faith because they rely on feelings, impressions, or convictions rather than God's Word. True faith has nothing to do with personal sensations but is solely based on whether God has promised something. Trusting in His supernatural power, without trying to predict how or when He will act, is essential. Faith itself is a gift from God, not something to be worked up or strained for, but received through drawing closer to Him, surrendering to His will, and spending time in prayer.
