Satan's Lies About the Law

Sermon by Charles Whitaker (1944-2021)

Satan relentlessly attacks God's law by spreading lies and half-truths to diminish its importance, encouraging people to marginalize, minimize, or outright reject it, or even to misuse it for nefarious purposes. In the secular world, he fosters increasing lawlessness, while in the Christian community, he corrupts respect for God's law, which is an expression of His character and love in action. Satan's hatred for this law drives him to target those committed to obeying it, aiming to subvert their view and undermine their respect, hoping to prompt rejection in any form. One lie satan propagates is about the nature of law itself, suggesting it operates with elements of chance, contradicting its inherent stability, invariability, and predictability. This falsehood distorts the certainty and regularity of God's law, which provides stability in both physical and spiritual realms, forming the bedrock of His judgment. Another lie concerns the scope or audience of God's law, falsely claiming it applies only to ancient Israel, as some interpret specific passages to limit its relevance. This misrepresents the universality of the law, which, like sin and death, applies to all people. Sin is a reproach to any people, and death, its consequence, affects everyone. Since sin and death are universal, God's law, which empowers sin to produce death, must also be universal, applying to everyone and everything, with nothing outside its reach except God's grace.

The Big Lie (Part One)

Commentary by Mark Schindler

Satan, as the father of lies, deceives the whole world, and his focus is on destroying God's holy people who have been separated from the world to be one with Him. His efforts aim to wear down and separate us from God and from those whom the Father has called into the Body of Christ. This pattern of deception follows the big lie that began in the Garden of Eden, where satan first told a colossal falsehood, a tactic of propaganda so immense that it distorts truth infamously. This same strategy continues to move men to destroy themselves through incessant lies and accusations that manipulate emotions and suspend rationality. In today's world, we see this reflected in the overwhelming barrage of falsehoods, such as the extensive media coverage and accusations surrounding political figures, repeated relentlessly to shape public belief. These lies, repeated frequently, mirror the historical pattern of the big lie, aiming to repress dissent and shield people from the consequences of deception. Satan uses these tactics to divide and conquer, tempting us to be consumed by carnal-minded politics while claiming unity in Jesus Christ. The truth that is in Jesus Christ stands as the mortal enemy of satan's lies, and thus, satan wages war on those graciously separated to live in that truth. We must recognize these big lies in society and seek the place of safety found in the truth of Jesus Christ, avoiding entanglement in the battles driven by deception.

Satan (Part 2)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Satan's lies are crafted with malevolent brilliance, designed to deceive and destroy by subtly twisting the truth. His tactics invade our minds with opinions, convictions, and feelings that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God, aiming to alter our behavior and sever our relationship with Him. As seen in the Garden of Eden, he uses cunning suggestions to cast doubt on God's credibility, making obedience seem restrictive and portraying God as a rival rather than a friend. By minimizing penalties and offering false rewards, he reorients focus from submission to God to self-centered desires, leading to a distorted view of life and enmity against God. His devices, described as wiles, contrivances, or schemes, are primarily mental, exploiting our ability to reason and imagine. He weaves illusions to make evil appear good, turning natural desires into traps that gradually ensnare us into sin's addictive hold. Satan's subtlety can transform even good spiritual qualities, like godly sorrow, into destructive self-pity or bitterness, undermining relationships with God and others. He employs distractions and disinformation, making eternal matters seem unimportant while elevating trivial pursuits, step by step leading us away from God's purpose. Through false prophets and ministers, often appearing as wolves in sheep's clothing, he spreads lies that blur the distinction between right and wrong. These deceptive teachings, infiltrating even the true church, promote a broad, easy path rather than the narrow way of sacrifice and obedience to God. His lies produce death through sin, deliberate attempts to wipe us out, destroying both the quality and essence of life. With shrewd tactics, he preys on human weakness, patiently guiding us toward enslavement to sin, making disobedience seem better than following God's way.
