The Importance of God's Word

Commentary by Charles Whitaker (1944-2021)

God's Word, when feared and respected, serves as a powerful restraining force against unbridled carnality. When people lack respect for His Word, they run wild, casting off restraint, becoming ungovernable, and allowing law and order to disappear. Those who remain faithful to the instruction of God and His Word are blessed, as it works to restrain individuals and entire societies from the excesses of rampant carnality. When respected and obeyed, God's Word is a positive good in any culture or society. As respect for God's Word wanes, nations witness a decline in lawfulness, becoming ruled by political opportunists and relativistic policies rather than the immutable standards of His Law. This loss of reverence makes people easy prey for the flattering lies of the lawless man. With the suppression of God's Word and the preaching of its truth becoming more evident worldwide, the time when the lawless man will be plainly seen draws near.

The Temptations of Christ: Behold, the Lamb of God

Sermon by Mark Schindler

As we approach God's holy days, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to the truth of God's Word, trembling at its power and authority. This reverence is essential to avoid the subtle lies and temptations of satan, ensuring we live as Christ lived, even amidst persecution. God's Word demands our careful, reverential service, as seen in the historical accounts of the ark of the covenant, where carelessness brought death and destruction to the Israelites. Only through formal reverence and consecrated effort, seeking His direction, did the consequences of their dereliction cease. We, too, must worship Him in spirit and in truth, fulfilling our duties within His awesome plan, never allowing a slight twist of truth to pull us off course. Trembling at His Word means recognizing the perfection of His work and the privilege we have in faithfully observing His holy days, ensuring we uphold His truth against the deceptions of this world.
