Are We Really Committed?

Sermonette by Mark Schindler

Brethren, we must be wary of harboring attitudes of worldly compromise that hinder our total commitment to God. Some may seek to keep peace by aligning with the world, while others run as close to the edge of disobedience as possible, believing they can avoid consequence. There are those who focus on comparing themselves to others rather than on the Almighty God and His works. Worst of all, some believe that God will overlook their lack of responsibility and still bestow His blessings without full obedience. Any of these attitudes can prevent us from being wholly dedicated to God and may lead us to spiritual death. During this Feast of Tabernacles, we are called to examine ourselves meticulously. We must ask if we are holding back from a complete, 100% commitment to God. Have we compromised with the world to maintain peace? Are we testing the limits of disobedience? Are we distracted by others instead of focusing on God? Do we expect blessings without full dedication? This is our time to become totally committed, to count our blessings, and to see if our commitment matches His. God separates us from this world to keep His Feast, so we can recount what He has done for us and His unwavering commitment to His purpose. We must reflect on our journey, both past and future, and our part in God's plan. Our commitment must be rooted in faith, which grows by seeing God's hand in everything. As we gather, we are to share with one another the miracles and challenges in our lives, bolstering our faith and dedication to God's purpose. We come to the place where God has put His name, using our second tithe, to utterly destroy the false gods and altars within ourselves. This week is for carefully inventorying every aspect of our lives over the past year, ensuring we reverence God above all others and hold nothing back. No other god is responsible for our blessings; only the Great God who has brought us to this Feast. We owe Him more than we could ever repay, and all He seeks is our hearts and our commitment. Let us tremble at His Word and use this precious time to renew or initiate our complete dedication to Him, separating ourselves from this evil world.
