God's Love and Teachings for His Children
Sermon by Kim MyersAs God's children, we are assured that all things work together for our good, fitting into a divine plan for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 reminds us that God, as our partner, orchestrates everything for the benefit of His family. Even the struggles we face now are nothing compared to the glory He will reveal in us later, as stated in Romans 8:18. Though life in this present world is often difficult, filled with trials and temptations, we must hold fast to the promise that our efforts and endurance are worth it. Malachi 3:17 assures us that God will claim us as His own, sparing us as a father spares his son who serves him. The future holds unimaginable blessings, as Matthew 13:43 promises that the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. II Corinthians 6:18 further confirms that God will be a Father to us, and we shall be His sons and daughters. Brethren, everything we endure in this present age is indeed worth it, for our Father is with us, guiding and protecting us through every challenge.
Why Does God Allow Us to Be Afflicted?
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsIn the midst of life's trials and sorrows, we find a profound truth in Romans 8:28, which declares that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. This encompasses every affliction, trial, and persecution we endure, no matter how numerous or prolonged they may be. These challenges are among the means appointed for our benefit, designed to contribute mutually to our good. They help detach us from the desires of this world, revealing the temporary and deceptive nature of our condition. They guide us to seek God's support and cultivate a meek and humble spirit within us. This principle has been the experience of saints throughout history, who, at the end of their lives, could affirm that it was good to have been afflicted. For those who love God, afflictions become a blessing, shaping us in ways that align with His will. They stand in contrast to the experience of others, where such trials may lead to complaint, rebellion, or anger, rather than peace, submission, or love. When we receive afflictions as they are meant to be received, desiring them to fulfill their intended purpose, we are made better and truly blessed by them.
Everlasting Consolation and Good Hope
Sermon by Martin G. CollinsIn the face of life's trials and discouragements, we are reminded of the profound truth found in Romans 8:26-28, where the Spirit aids us in our weaknesses, and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. This does not imply that every situation itself is good, such as the loss of a spouse or a job, but rather that any circumstance can result in good if we meet the challenge rightly and allow God to guide us. By placing our lives in God's hands, the end result will always be for our benefit, whether immediately or eventually. Further strengthening this assurance, Romans 8:31-32 declares that if God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all will surely, with Him, freely give us all things. Even amidst tribulation, distress, persecution, or any peril, Romans 8:35-37 affirms that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ, and in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. God's presence sustains and comforts us, even in the most dreadful agonies, ensuring that we are never truly forsaken.
