Wandering the Wilderness in Faith
'Personal' from John W. RitenbaughThe source of faith, as revealed in the journey of the Israelites, lies in trusting God's presence and promises, yet they failed to enter the Promised Land due to unbelief. Despite witnessing God's mighty acts and having His Word through Moses and Aaron, along with living examples of faith in men like Joshua and Caleb, the Israelites could not overcome their carnal mindset, leading to persistent sin and rebellion. Their unbelief, equated with disobedience, stemmed from a lack of trust in Him, even when He provided for their every need in the wilderness. This serves as a sobering warning that faith is not merely acknowledging God's existence but involves a deep, abiding trust that undergirds a life of obedience. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and without this message, there would be no foundation for belief or trust to guide one to salvation. The Israelites' failure to trust the true message and instead follow false influences highlights the critical need to evaluate and adhere to the right teachings, as God initiates faith by leading us to His Word, stirring our minds to understand His truth.
