When Jesus ascended on the 40th day, He was brought before the Ancient of Days and given dominion, glory, and an everlasting kingdom (Daniel 7:13-14). He sat down at the Father's right hand, enthroned and ruling with Him (Psalm 110:1). His kingdom became official in a way it was not even while He was a Man. He overcame and then sat down with the Father on His throne (Revelation 3:21). He is far above every principality, power, and dominion, whether good or evil, and angels and authorities are subject to Him (Ephesians 1:19-23; I Peter 3:22; Hebrews 1:4, 13). The Father exalted Him; He did not exalt Himself, which is the opposite of Helel's self-willed attempt to ascend. Christ is Heir of all things and Head of the church, governing it from heaven according to what is good in His sight. His rule combines kingship and priesthood, so that He is a Priest on His throne (Psalm 110:4; Zechariah 6:11-13). Yet He now waits until His enemies are made His footstool, and the opening of the seals and the seventh trumpet mark steps toward that end, when the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of the Lord and His Christ (Revelation 5; 11:15). He will return visibly, on the clouds, not in secret.
