Worship God!

'Ready Answer' by Staff

What is worship? What should our attitude be in worship? How do we worship God? Our God is seeking people to worship Him in spirit and truth!

The Third Commandment

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

Many think the Third Commandment merely prohibits profane speech. In reality, it regulates the purity and quality of our worship of the great God.

The Third Commandment (1997)

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

Many think the third commandment deals only with euphemisms and swearing, but it goes much deeper. It regulates the quality of our worship and glorifying God.

The Commandments (Part Four)

Sermon/Bible Study by John W. Ritenbaugh

The prohibition against taking God's name in vain is the least understood commandment. When we bear God's name, we are to bear His character and nature.

Where God Places His Name (Part Two)

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The third commandment deals with the quality of our worship. To take God's name in vain is more than profane speech. The Hebrew nasha means to bear or carry, and shav means emptiness, falsehood, or worthlessness. Because God has called His people and written His name on them, they bear it everywhere, and all their speech, demeanor, attitudes, decisions, and even dress and grooming either honor it or sully it. Vain worship can be thoughtless, careless, mechanical, or rote, or it can be unrighteous, false, and sinful. God's name is no vapor, so His people must not come before Him in a light, worthless, disrespectful, or unworthy manner. Their response to Him must be of the highest quality, fitting the perfect righteousness and holiness of the God they represent, and He will hold them accountable for failing in this. Worship of high quality grows out of knowing God's name, which is His character: compassionate, gracious, patient, abounding in covenant loyalty and truth, forgiving, and just. His glory overwhelms sinners, but His name can be calmly contemplated, so worshippers come to know Him through it. Those who keep His word, do not deny His name, and embrace Him as Moses embraced the tablets are rewarded with His name written on them.

Holiness (Part 1)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

To appropriate the name of God means to represent His attributes, character and nature. Our behavior must imitate Christ just as Christ revealed God the Father.

The Fourth Commandment

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

At creation, God sanctified only one day, the seventh, as a day of rest. At Sinai, He again sanctified it as a holy day, tying it to creation and freedom.

The Fourth Commandment (Part 1)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

The Sabbath is a special creation, a very specific period of holy time given to all of mankind, reminding us that God created and is continuing to create.

The Fourth Commandment (Part One) (1997)

'Personal' from John W. Ritenbaugh

Most people think the fourth commandment is least important, but it may be one of the most important! It is a major facet of our relationship with God.

My House or God's?

'Prophecy Watch' by David C. Grabbe

In a revealing passage (John 7:53-8:1), the apostle John contrasts Jesus Christ to the Jews. God wants His people to prioritize Him above themselves.

Taking Your Priestly Responsibilities Seriously!

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God is training us as a holy priesthood, called to offer unblemished sacrifices, honoring His name, putting down pride, presumptuousness, and arrogance.

Do All to the Glory of God!

Commentary by Martin G. Collins

Casualness has overtaken many mainstream Protestant and Catholic churches, but has also been creeping into the greater church of God.
