Faith and the Christian Fight (Part Four)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughFaith is essential to pleasing God, and He will reward it. By grace and through faith, the convicted and repentant sinner is saved. It is by faith that Christ dwells in our hearts, by faith that we live, stand before God, and walk with Him. Through faith, satan is successfully resisted, and we are experientially sanctified in daily life. Faith grants us freedom of speech before God, allowing us to speak with Him as He listens. It is by faith that we fight the good fight and overcome the world. Walking with God and seeking Him by faith requires the works of keeping Him in mind, combined with the effort of obedience and any sacrifices of time, energy, and rejection by worldly family, friends, and associates. Yet, these efforts result in being rewarded by God. He promises to be the ultimate reward for those who seek Him diligently, making Him their first priority continuously through life. With Him come all the blessings needed for both physical and spiritual life.
Faith and the Christian Fight (Part Five)
Sermon by John W. RitenbaughFaith is the foundation of the Christian way of life, and grace is the means of deliverance, yet works link the two together by providing evidence that faith exists and that grace produces right actions. Noah's faith motivated him to work, and God rewarded that labor by saving him and his family from the Flood's destruction. The reward of seeking God is that He gives Himself to the seeker, supplying everything that He is and will do. God rewards those who diligently seek Him by revealing Himself in greater detail while providing for every physical and spiritual need. Grace and works belong together as necessary parts of the same process that develops a family relationship with God. Salvation is at one and the same time both a gift from God and a reward to the person who works. God continues to reward those who seek Him by accepting them into His presence, forgiving them, giving knowledge of His character, and providing protection, healing, and peace of mind. Persistent asking, seeking, and knocking are works of faith that God rewards by supplying what is needed. Noah received grace that he did not earn, yet without his work of building the ark there would have been no salvation from the Flood. Grace and faith are the cause, works are the effect, and the two together produce salvation into God's Kingdom.
