God's Splendor Revealed in Orchids!

Commentary by Martin G. Collins

God's creation of thousands upon thousands of flowers, including orchids, demonstrates His love for beauty, His careful nurturing, His tremendous imagination, and His rejoicing over things that are good. Orchids, as part of God's creation, reflect His invisible attributes. God designed orchids with a variety of features, such as the smallest orchid being the size of a dime with petals one cell thick and transparent, and the largest weighing several hundred pounds. Orchids have the tiniest seeds in the world, with a single seedpod containing up to 3 million seeds, yet they lack nutrients and require a specific fungus to germinate and grow. God also designed orchids to trick insects into pollinating them by shaping and coloring their reproductive parts to resemble the insects they attract. The bilateral symmetry of orchids, resembling the human face, showcases the intelligent design and care God has put into His creation.

Seeing God in Creation (Part Three)

Sermonette by Ronny H. Graham

Physicists see order and regularity in nature, seeing the ubiquitous pattern of the golden ratio unifying the shapes of rose petals, shells, and the human body.

Seeking God's Will (Part Six): Forethought

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

God's forethought is evident in the creation of the earth, designed to support life, particularly human life. He prepared the earth with all necessary elements like air, water, and soil, as well as countless minor details such as beneficial microbes, yeast, and plant essences that contribute to human well-being and enjoyment. God's foresight in creation ensured that all these elements would work together harmoniously, leading Him to declare in Genesis 1:31 that everything He had made was very good.

Ecclesiastes (Part Four; B)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

God's design is evident in the natural world, as seen in the consistent patterns of egg hatching times: potato bugs in 7 days, canaries in 14 days, hens in 21 days, ducks and geese in 28 days, Mallard ducks in 35 days, and parrots and ostriches in 42 days. This precision extends to the unique design of the elephant, which has all four legs bending forward to allow it to rise from the ground, a feature not found in other four-legged animals. God's attention to detail is further illustrated by the even number of stripes on every watermelon, segments in every orange, rows on every corncob, grains on each stalk of wheat, and bananas in each bunch. Additionally, flowers bloom at specific times, enabling botanists like Linnaeus to tell time based on which flowers are open or closed. These examples showcase God's meticulous design and His overarching control in creation, reflecting His role as the sovereign Designer who orders life.

Bible Difficulties by Design

Sermon by Martin G. Collins

God, as the Designer, has purposefully crafted the Bible with apparent difficulties to fulfill His divine plan. He has designed His written Word in a way that may seem riddled with errors, discrepancies, and contradictions to the unconverted, yet it remains perfect according to His purpose for the salvation of mankind. These God-designed difficulties stimulate our minds, prompting deep thought, contemplation, and meditation on the facts, inspiring a search for truth and a curiosity for new knowledge and wisdom. Furthermore, God's design in the Bible's difficulties illustrates analogies between the Scriptures and nature, clearly showing their common origin in Him as the Designer, Creator, and Sustainer of all physical life. The self-contradictions observed in the Bible mirror those in nature, where the material universe bears unmistakable traces of His infinite wisdom, power, and love. Just as nature's ecosystem—from balmy breezes to melodious songbirds—proclaims the excellence of its Designer, so too does the Bible reflect His sovereignty and attributes. He has designed both with perfection suited to His purpose, ensuring that even apparent contradictions serve to teach and guide according to His plan. God's omnipotence and wisdom are evident in the immensity of the heavens and the intricacies of creation, revealing only the mere edges of His ways. How could a Being of such limitless attributes not have designed His written Word with the same perfection? He proclaims through His creation that it is all part of His plan, crafted for peace, enjoyment, and education, urging faith in His sovereign design. The Bible, sharing the same Designer as nature, is perfectly suited for teaching the essence of the gospel of the coming Kingdom of God, with alleged contradictions forming part of a carefully designed manual for salvation.

The Pattern of Creation

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Mike Ford

God works with patterns, much like a skilled quilter follows a design. In Exodus chapter 25, He provided Moses with precise directions for the tabernacle and its furnishings, establishing a clear plan. Similarly, in I Chronicles 28, David received plans from God to pass on to Solomon for the building of the Temple, possibly through a vivid vision transferred to writing. God uses patterns repeatedly, not only for physical structures but with spiritual purpose, as seen in Romans 8:28-29, where Christ serves as a living blueprint for what we are to become. Though we each have individual features and thoughts, there is a pattern to follow, ensuring variety within a unified design. God's role as Designer is evident in the vast creation of the universe and the specific focus on Earth. Psalm 33:6-9 highlights His command in forming the heavens and gathering the seas, working through Jesus Christ. Psalm 115 notes that while the vast universe remains under His dominion, His attention is currently on Earth and its inhabitants. In Genesis 1, after the initial creation of the heavens, the focus shifts exclusively to Earth, with the sun, moon, and stars mentioned only in relation to this planet. The billions of galaxies await their turn for development, as God's plan unfolds with Earth as the center of His creative purpose. God's design for Earth includes precise conditions that sustain life, unlike other planets such as Venus or Mars. Earth's atmosphere, with its perfect mix of nitrogen and oxygen, protects like a quilt wrapped around the planet. Jupiter acts as a shield, blocking debris, while the moon stabilizes Earth's rotation to prevent drastic climate shifts. Earth's size is just right to hold its atmosphere, neither too small nor too large to become a gas giant. These elements reflect a deliberate pattern, a blueprint proven to support life. From the beginning, as seen in Genesis 1:2, God's instrument—whether understood as His Spirit or a divine wind—played a crucial role in creation, forming clouds and drawing land. This pattern of essential elements like heat, water, and wind provides a foundation for life. Looking to the future, Christ has been given authority over the entire universe, as noted in Hebrews 1:2 and 2, and we are to share in that glory. With Christ as our pattern, we anticipate responsibilities that may include developing distant planets, following the proven blueprints of creation to bring life and beauty to barren worlds, always under His guidance.

Creation Stewardship

Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Martin G. Collins

We as Christians should strive to be the most conscientious environmentalists or creationists in the world because the earth and its fullness are the Lord's.

We Must Believe!

Sermon by John O. Reid

We are asked to believe in a Being nobody has directly seen or heard, whose written word has been vilified and scorned. Without faith, we can't please God.

Unity (2006)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

Like the symphony orchestra, only as an instrumentalist submits to the leader, working with the other members of the ensemble, can unity be accomplished.

Many Excuses

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

We need to avoid the trap of self-justification, allowing our hasty words to lure us into sin. We must be quick to listen, and slow to speak.
