Seeing God in Creation (Part Two)

Creation Stewardship
Feast of Tabernacles Sermon by Martin G. CollinsGod's creation cries out for help due to the sins of mankind. As human beings reject God, they proportionately abuse His creation. The earth belongs to the Lord, and everything in it, emphasizing our responsibility to care for it. Jesus Christ showed interest in the environment, using nature in His parables, such as the lilies of the field, to highlight its beauty and to call for contemplation of the Kingdom's splendor. In the risen Jesus Christ, we see the firstfruits of a renewed creation, urging us to be effective and balanced stewards of the environment, driven by belief in a Creator. Creation declares God's glory and proclaims the work of His hands, providing clear evidence of His eternal power and divinity. Through creation, God lovingly provides rain, water cycles, food for creatures, joy to people's hearts, and satisfaction to the earth. However, human abuse of creation grieves God, often without realizing the impact of our actions. Seven provisions of creation reveal God's genius and care. First, Earth's energy exchange with the sun energizes life, balanced by greenhouse gases and protected by the ozone layer from harmful radiation, showcasing God's fine-tuned design. Second, soil and land building demonstrate how climate, rainfall, and organisms enrich soil over time, nurturing life even from bare rock, teaching patience through God's design. Third, cycling and recycling in ecosystems show God's design in reusing substances like carbon dioxide and water, constantly refurbishing the earth. Fourth, water purification through soil filtration provides clean drinking water by God's sovereignty. Fifth, fruitfulness and abundant life reflect God's creativity with millions of species interrelating in the biosphere. Sixth, global circulations of water and air maintain life by distributing vital elements like carbon dioxide and oxygen. Seventh, human ability to learn from creation endows us with minds to integrate lessons from nature, as seen in biblical commands to observe creatures like ants and lilies for moral and practical teachings. These provisions carry a condition of obedience and reverence to God. Disobedience can mute God's testimony in creation, as human actions degrade the environment through land conversion, species extinction, land degradation, resource waste, global toxification, planetary exchange alterations, and cultural disruptions. Despite this, God's creation remains a powerful agency of His providence, providing for needs, guiding history, and developing character, as evidenced in the Psalms and Jesus' teachings of universal provision through nature. Ultimately, our stewardship of creation trains us in responsibility for the territory of God's Kingdom.
Christians and Evolution
'WorldWatch' by Richard T. RitenbaughThe concept of Creation, as presented in the Bible, stands in stark contrast to evolutionary theory. Christians hold that the biblical account of origins is true, accepting it because Jesus Christ teaches to live by every word of God and because all Scripture is inspired by Him. It is evident that Jesus, as the Creator, affirmed the seven-day creation and the account of Noah's Flood. Furthermore, the narrative of Adam and Eve and their sin directly correlates with the necessity of Jesus coming as a Man to redeem humanity from sin, with the first prophecy of a Savior to defeat the serpent recorded in Genesis. Thus, to accept evolution is to deny Christ, His mission, and His message.
Passover and New Creation
Sermon by Charles Whitaker (1944-2021)In the account of Genesis 1 and 2, God established the order of things through a principle of division or separation. He created numerous pairings, such as heaven and earth, day and night, light and dark, sun and moon, land and sea, male and female, good and evil, and life and death. These separations are fundamental to the fabric of life, with the Hebrew verb for 'divide' or 'separate' appearing multiple times in the creation narrative. On the second day, God implied a separation of land and sea, and on the fourth day, He further defined separations that shaped the order. Additionally, the creation of humankind involved a division into male and female, made explicit when God formed Eve from a rib separated from Adam. This process of division, evident even in cell division essential to life, underscores how God built the current order through separation. However, God is also crafting a new creation, characterized not by division but by unity. This new order, which begins with the creation of the new man, of whom Christ is the first and preeminent, will culminate in a new heaven and a new earth. In this future order, separations such as land and sea, and day and night, will be dissolved. The sea will be removed, leaving only land, and night will cease to exist, symbolizing a profound unification. This reversal of the original divisions signifies an environment of fellowship and peace, where God reconciles all things to Himself through Christ, restoring a lost unity and replacing the old order with one defined by oneness.
