Yoked With Christ, Our Helper
Sermonette by Ted E. BowlingThe Paracletos (Helper or One who goes alongside) clarifies the biblical metaphor of taking Christ's yoke, which eases burdens because He shares them.
Take My Yoke Upon You
'Ready Answer' by Ronny H. GrahamOur Savior Jesus Christ understands perfectly the burdens of this world and the devastation caused by sin. He encourages us in Matthew 11:27-30, saying, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Unlike the heavy yokes of bondage or servitude that weigh us down, His yoke is a tool designed for maximum capacity and efficiency. Jesus has already defeated sin, so we do not have to carry that burden. Picture yourself sharing the same yoke with Him, working together like a pair of oxen with a load to pull, with God the Father as the teamster guiding the way. Jesus is right beside us in the yoke, diligently working to guide and pull His share of the load to ensure the job is finished. Our reward is rest for our souls, the rest of God in His Kingdom. Jesus has cut the road ahead, and by following His lead, we will find relief from all our burdens.

Choosing Our Yoke
Sermon by Bill OnisickJesus Christ offers an invitation to those weighed down by the yoke and cares of this world. He promises rest from the heavy burden of this world and the yoke that comes with it. Jesus Christ states that His yoke must be taken voluntarily because a choice exists between His yoke and the yoke of satan who owns this world. Taking His yoke means becoming attached and hitched to Him all day every day while learning from Him. Jesus Christ describes His heart as meek and lowly. Meekness means gentle humble mild but not weak as it is great power held back in restraint. Lowly means cast down humble of low degree as a heart that lowers itself to serve others. Jesus Christ states that His yoke is chrestos meaning better good gracious and kind rather than harsh overbearing or oppressive. His laws are reasonable and easy to obey and His burden is light because His commandments are not burdensome. When yoked with Jesus Christ He remains right by one's side as the stronger spiritual ox helping align the will to His and the Father's. His yoke teaches self-control by replacing self-reliance with reliance on Him and His strength. Submitting to His teachings allows one to walk in obedience and find rest and peace while replacing impulsive carnal reactions with His gentle meek humble forbearing character. This produces the fruit of His Spirit. Being yoked with Jesus Christ is a decision made each and every day upon waking to work in God's spiritual field. It requires responding to His calling putting on His yoke at the beginning of each day keeping Him in the forefront of the mind and by one's side all day long. It requires praying to Him throughout the day meditating and reflecting on thoughts attitudes decisions actions and anxieties while studying His Word to develop a heart that is meek and lowly. Jesus Christ's yoke His Holy Spirit never leaves and abides forever teaches all things and guides into all truth. Through His enabling Spirit inner strength comes to discipline the mind against worldly distractions and temptations. When the mind is governed by the Spirit life and peace result. As many as are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. Being yoked together with Jesus Christ creates a tight union of companionship and resemblance that conforms one to His image. Standing fast in the liberty by which Christ has made one free avoids entanglement again with a yoke of bondage. Jesus Christ's spiritual yoke His Holy Spirit helps overcome and control the carnal mind and heart. Bringing the mind into alignment with His heart that is meek and lowly produces the fruit of the Spirit because it is God's Spirit in one coming back out to others. Growing together under Christ's yoke under His Spirit transforms the mind to become like God and the Creator.
