Our Genetically Altered Foods (Part Two)
Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)A perfect storm regarding health issues is building, with purity lost in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat, constantly becoming more defiled. Among the most insidious dangers we face is the combination of hybridization and genetic manipulation in our food supply. Modern hybridized wheat, planted since the 1970s, is a major trigger of obesity and celiac diseases, artificially stimulating appetite and contributing to the average American being 20 pounds heavier than in 1990, with projections of 40 pounds heavier by 2020. GMO corn, containing the insect-killing Bt gene, poses a major threat to human health, banned in most European countries but constituting 50% of corn grown in the United States across all 50 states. Twenty-five percent of corn and all soybeans produced are fed to cattle, which absorb the Bt gene into their meat, passing it to us when we consume beef. Scores of processed foods contain GMO grains, transferring the Bt gene to us through consumption. Other GMO crops include sugar beets, potatoes engineered with a cholera-inhibiting vaccine, tomatoes, 90% of soybeans, papayas, zucchini, yellow squash, cotton, and rapeseed used for oils. Even aspartame, an artificial sweetener, is produced through genetic combining, and a GMO salmon is nearing the market. Dairy cattle injected with the rGBH hormone further compound the issue. These genetically modified products are widely available, yet labeling is banned, leaving people blind to the dangers. Avoiding them requires careful searching and paying higher prices for organic options, which many cannot afford, making this trap nearly impossible to escape due to urban living constraints, land requirements, and time needed to grow one's own food.
Our Genetically Altered Foods (Part One)
Commentary by John W. Ritenbaugh (1932-2023)Genetically-altered foods represent the latest concern in a long history of food modification, following practices like hybridization and the use of chemicals to color, preserve, and enhance flavors. These modifications, driven by marketing rather than nutritional improvement, pose dangers to health. The pervasive issue of food contamination, influenced by satan's deception over industries such as Monsanto, is a spiritual problem at its core. This contamination is universal and unavoidable, much like air, and while food is essential for life, attempting to completely avoid contaminated food can become an idol, diverting focus from our relationship with God. He has permitted satan to exert this influence, yet He assures us of a spiritual solution through faith. Christ, who nourishes His church for both spiritual and physical well-being, will make the food available to us acceptable to our bodies if we are thankful and use our faith to ask Him for this provision. We must carefully search out the best food possible in our circumstances, exercise restraint in judging others regarding food choices, and faithfully ask Him to make our food acceptable for our life and health.
Women and Fetuses at Risk!
Commentary by Martin G. CollinsFrom the beginning, farming has been a vital part of human life, with small, self-sustaining family farms once dominating most cultures. Over time, as farms grew larger and more specialized, control of agriculture remained with the people through seed saving and trading. However, this has drastically changed with the rise of large chemical and agribusiness firms that have merged with seed companies, gaining significant control over genetically modified crops with transgenic traits. Scientific studies, including a 10-year experimental feeding project in Norway, have revealed alarming health hazards linked to genetically engineered (GE) foods. Results published on July 11, 2012, showed that animals fed GE Bt corn consumed more, gained excessive weight, and struggled to digest proteins due to changes in their intestinal micro-structure. These animals also exhibited organ changes affecting weight gain, eating behaviors, and immune function. Further findings from long-term feeding studies on rats, mice, pigs, and salmon confirmed that GE feed causes obesity and significant alterations in the digestive system and major organs like the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and genitals, alongside immune system disruptions. Bt corn, engineered with a gene from Bacillus thuringiensis to produce a pesticide toxin, entered the food supply in the late 1990s. Despite claims from biotech companies and the US Environmental Protection Agency that the Bt-toxin would not affect humans or animals, research has proven otherwise. The toxin has been detected in the blood of pregnant women, their babies' umbilical blood, and non-pregnant women, indicating it crosses into the human biome. Scientists speculate that Bt-toxin could damage the integrity of the digestive tract, especially in newborns and young children, potentially leading to autoimmune diseases, food allergies, and cognitive issues due to an undeveloped blood-brain barrier. Evidence also shows that since the introduction of Bt crops in 1996, there has been a rise in gastrointestinal problems, autoimmune diseases, food allergies, and childhood learning disorders. Between 1997 and 2002, hospitalizations due to allergic reactions to food surged by 265 percent, with allergy rates continuing to climb. Studies, including government-sponsored research in Italy, have demonstrated that mice fed Bt corn exhibited immune responses such as elevated antibodies and cytokines linked to allergies and inflammation, as well as increased T cells associated with asthma and other disorders. Rats fed another Bt corn variety, MON 863, showed heightened immune activity with increased basophils, lymphocytes, and white blood cells, indicating possible allergies, infections, toxins, and disease states, alongside signs of liver and kidney toxicity. There is undeniable scientific evidence that genetically engineered foods trigger adverse immune system responses and severe health issues. This perversion of food, originally designed perfectly for human consumption, disrupts the intended order of life and sustenance.
Fooling With the Code
'Prophecy Watch' by Richard T. RitenbaughMany people have made science and technology into idols, believing that with just the right amount of research, funding, time, and a little luck, they can solve all of mankind's problems. God's answer is clear: You are nothing, and your work is nothing. He challenges them to produce, knowing that their attempts are futile and doomed. They may indeed do good or do evil to some degree, but we should not be overly concerned. God sees their work, including the genetic modification and engineering of organisms, and He will send His Son to establish the Kingdom of God on earth before they can do massive, irreversible harm. We have His promise that in the Millennium, none of them will be genetically modified, engineered, or altered in any way.
