The Seventh Trumpet

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The Day of Trumpets holds a central place in God's plan, marking a pivotal moment that bridges past redemption of individuals and the future salvation of all humanity. It is a day of profound significance, commemorating the beginning of God's reign and government on earth. The sounding of trumpets, as a memorial of shouting or blowing of the shofar, often signals war, alarm, and judgment, yet also carries the promise of joy and victory. The seventh trumpet, also known as the last trump, is a critical event described in Revelation 11:15-19, heralding the establishment of God's Kingdom. This trumpet sounds for days, not merely as a brief fanfare, indicating an extended period during which significant events unfold. It encompasses the seven last plagues, also called the seven bowls or vials of God's wrath, which are poured out as part of the seventh trumpet's fulfillment. These plagues represent God's judgment on the earth, softening the enemies of God before Christ's return to finish the battle. The proclamation accompanying the seventh trumpet announces that the kingdom of this world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, signifying a transfer of power from satan's dominion to the sovereignty of Jesus Christ. Loud voices in heaven declare this as if it were already accomplished, reflecting the certainty of God's plan. The 24 elders fall on their faces in humility and gratitude, thanking God for taking His great power and reigning, a stark contrast to the defiance of the nations who face His wrath. This trumpet blast signals both punishment and reward. The nations, having raged against God, face His wrath and judgment, while His servants, prophets, saints, and those who fear His name receive their reward. The judgment extends to those who destroy the earth, encompassing all who harm through sin, whether by physical destruction or corruption of humanity. The seventh trumpet's sounding culminates in Christ's return, the establishment of His Kingdom, and the ultimate victory over God's enemies, marking a time of both dread for the unrepentant and joy for the faithful.

The Rapture and Trumpets

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The Seven Trumpet Plagues are a critical element in the unfolding of end-time events, marking significant judgments during the Day of the Lord. These plagues are the outworking of the seventh seal, as described in Revelation 8:1 through chapter 9:29, representing God's wrath against rebellious humanity. The trumpets sound as a series of divine judgments, each escalating in intensity, culminating in the seventh and last trumpet. This final trumpet is executed by the Judge Himself, Jesus Christ, at His coming, signifying the ultimate judgment upon the earth as He puts down all rule against Him. This event is not a separate or secret occurrence but is part of the singular, powerful return of Christ to establish His Kingdom. The sounding of the seventh trumpet also aligns with the revelation of God's plan, as noted in Revelation 10:5-7, announcing the end of the mystery of God up to the point of Christ's return. At this moment, everything is revealed openly to all, marking the culmination of God's judgments, including the pouring out of the seven bowls of wrath prior to this event. The seventh trumpet is intricately tied to the resurrection of the elect and the return of Christ, occurring simultaneously with these events, as evidenced by the parallel timing in various scriptures. This trumpet blast is not an isolated or early signal before the Tribulation but is the last trumpet, heralding the triumphant return of the King and the establishment of His rule on earth.

Trumpets and the Fall of Jericho

Sermon by Richard T. Ritenbaugh

The Seven Trumpet Plagues, as depicted in Revelation, bear striking parallels to the events surrounding the fall of Jericho, emphasizing the significance of the Day of Trumpets. In Revelation 8, the seventh seal introduces the seven trumpets, each heralding a distinct plague upon the earth. As the narrative progresses to Revelation 11, the sounding of the Seventh Trumpet announces the momentous return of Jesus Christ, mirroring the climactic seventh day at Jericho when seven circuits around the city, accompanied by the blast of seven trumpets by seven priests, culminated in a great shout and the collapse of the city walls. This sequence in Jericho, with the first six days of silent marching paralleling the first six trumpet plagues, reflects a divine pattern of judgment and ultimate victory. The Seventh Trumpet in Revelation not only signals Christ's coming but also the granting of rewards to the saints, akin to the Israelites receiving their inheritance after Jericho's fall. Furthermore, the repetition of the number seven—seven days, seven trumpets, seven priests, and seven circuits on the seventh day—echoes the pervasive sevens in Revelation, underscoring a divine completeness in God's plan of judgment and liberation, as He prepares to establish His Kingdom.

The Patterns of God

Sermon by John O. Reid

The Seven Bowls or Vials of God's Wrath represent the culmination of divine judgment upon a disobedient world, as depicted in the sequence of catastrophic events following the sounding of the seventh trumpet. These seven last plagues, comprising the third woe, are poured forth on mankind as a final act of correction. They come after a series of devastating trumpet plagues that bring immense suffering, including vast military conflicts and natural disasters orchestrated by God to demonstrate His authority. Despite the horrors of preceding events, mankind remains unrepentant, filled with hatred and defiance against God's will. The pouring out of these vials signifies God's ultimate response to this rebellion, ensuring that every people, race, and nation finally listens to Him as everything else is stripped away. The last punishment within the seventh trumpet includes a great plague of hail, with hailstones weighing from 75 to 130 pounds, symbolizing the complete attention of the world to God's power. Through these vials, God brings an end to the wars and false beliefs that have plagued humanity for millennia, ushering in a time of unprecedented peace and national repentance.
